Hello, I am new to the site. I've been reading posts for two weeks before putting up this topic. Great site! Anyway, I am curious about how fast you've had your RX-1, the conditions, performance upgrades, etc.

Myself...(no modifications, all stock)

These are all speedometer readings, not radar.

1. 131 mph, plowed road with super hard packed base with an inch or two of fluffy lake effect on top. About 30 degrees.

2. 125 mph, across Sodus Bay. Ice with gritty, hard packed snow. About 30 degrees.

3. 122 mph, across Sodus Bay. Same conditions, only a few degrees warmer (it was later in the same day)

Houghton Lake in Michigan, hardpacked North shore at about 15 degree's I saw 138 on the dream "O" meter on my 03 Shorty ;)!

Mighty was yours studded, reason i ask ,my cousin ran his on a pond great cond. at 135 dreamometer, than we studded it 144 woodys his is 03 ER shorty with button track and he is running 1.075 studs and best run sense is 130 speedo and gps at 115 still not bad,but he did lose speed, after studding it.. ;)!

Yep, 192 Woodies Mega bites. I did have the track pretty tight because I was worried about the track ballooning and destroying the underside. I have also been told (by many) you will pick up top end with a tight track because a Ballooning track will cause too much wind resistance.

112mph on asphalt measured by timing system, 111mph gps'd on hard pack trail, this was pretty much stock, I believe I had silver secondary spring set different from stock, that's it. Then 121mph on gps with turbo, poor trail conditions, a bit on the warm side and clutching not tuned yet. We'll see what it does when I get it on asphalt.

No cheating Buckeye..LOL..I bet a non turbo sled puts you to sleep after owning a fine tuned turbo

I think its safe to say the average speed on radar/gps for a standard RX-1 is in the 106-112mph range. Any more then that would require a reduction in resistence such as a lowered chasis, low profile lightweight track, slippery sliders, a perfect powertrain .... etc.....
I’m willing to bet the Apex will run 110-115mph on average in stock form and run 120+ mildly tuned with a speed track.

I ran 118mph on my radar the first year late 2002. Ran it with the low profile track, lowered, HC clutch setup and dull ski carbides. This was on a road with an icy surface approx 1 mile long. Even then, it took many runs to get 118mph and tried a few belts to find the best speed.

Yup lots of the 03 shortys would run 113-115 stock on perfect conditions with that 1" button track, and some ran them unstudded, not me,i like to stop at that kind of speed,my cousin and mine same day same lake ran 115 and mine 117 but it would not repeat the 117,but i out weigh him,not that it matters after 1 mile, both stock tracks studded, with 144 woodys and both on perfect conditions hard snow to bare ice back to hard snow total length was 1.5 miles a good 1 plus mile of continus speed, both geared stock, but mine had a zr cat skid in,but not sure if it helped for top speed or not,and mine had HH weights and a team secondary roller on,now his was all stock, with reverse,i was quite surprised at the speed his had,now i could out accelerate him any time by a bunch, but our top speed was very close..

182 km/hr on speedo; 04 Mountain sled with reverse; 1.25/151 Ripsaw bone stock on groomed trail. Rev 10,800, temp -10C.

At times, my stock 04 RX-1 will barely break 100 mph, on the speedo. For example, on groomed trails. I need hardpack to break past 105-106, or ice. In fact, I couldn't pull ahead of a Poo 600 SDI in Quebec last year on a frozen lake with snow on top!! Man, that was embarrassing. I had to lie and say that I was just comparing speedo accuracy. How can 140 horsepower not push this sled faster that 100 mph when my '02 SXR 600 (stock also) with 103 horsepower could do 90-95 on these same conditions??? Also, I have noticed during these lackluster speed runs that my tach won't break 9500 rpm. Under full acceleration, it will stay at 10,000-10,200 and then back off to 9500 rpm when it's "top speed" of 104 or 105 mph has been reached. This probably has been the biggest disappointment with this sled...it's inconsistent performance. There are times when it will beat or tie an F7 all the way...then there are times when I get walked by 600 Poo, both stock machines. It has always seemed to be extremely sensitive to trail conditions when other sleds are not. I would think that with all of that power, it could overpower less than perfect conditions. Thoughts?

Chris, has it been lke this sense day one,the rpm thing? How many miles on it now,and when did it start doing weird things? Now i hope you already looked at the clutchs right! Maybe bearings, mine went bad at 2800 miles on my 03 maybe the bearings in 04 were better jackshaft/driveshaft never know, gear case how is that area? You should go right to 9800 and creep to 10,100 stock on snow, but on ice it should creep up to 10,500 stock, but if clutched go right to 10200-10500 and rip plus hold those rpms..
