It's acted in this manner since Day One after break-in, which I followed meticulously. It's the inconsistency that drives me craziest. Holding the throttle wide-open on a groomed trail or a lake with a less than packed base, and the tach won't break 10,000 r's and the speedo will stop climbing at about 105. Correction: it will be at 10,000 when accelerating, but will back down to 9500 or 9600 when maxed out. Now, at other times, it will break 10,000 and stay above 10,000 and the speedo will climb to around 120 or higher. This usually occurs on harder packed surfaces. There is a noticeable difference in the pull from the machine as well. When it is running 9500 or so, the sled almost feels like it has a flat spot right at the top end...very similar to a two-stroke on the upper end. I've even taken my thumb off the throttle at 105 and jammed it down again hoping to cause a change. It bounces off 10,000 and back to 9500 and that irritating flat spot.
As for the drive axle bearing, that was replaced at 5900 miles (speedo quit). It now has 6600 miles on it. I haven't looked at the clutches. I will ask my dealer to do that this fall. I really don't want to modify it because, other than the problem above, I am very pleased with everything in regards to the drivetrain. I just want it to perform consistently and be as fast as it should be.Chris,i am not sure where your secondary is,but if its in stock pos. just try winding up the preload, this does help upshift and backshifr when in tuff going,3and 3 is 60 degrees of twist, now its been a while sense i played with yammi secondary, but try 80 degrees of twist for starters,i think you can wind it to 120 degrees if memory serves me right, now you can change the weight of your rivets in your clutch weights to do some fine tuning,i drilled out my tip rivet, but not completely,as i have scales to weigh out stuff, and i think race24 stated about the carb springs, from holtzman get either green or silver springs, for a stock airbox sled, and your dealer will install them for you i bet, plus have him scynce your carbs, while hes at it,and maybe even jet it down some,it does make a difference,i liked my sled coming out at 4000 and shifting at 10200 and creeping up tp 10500 on topend, you will like it there too.
