A bit of back story, my girlfriend wants to learn to ride. More over, she wants to learn to ride on my sled, which scares the heck out of me. I mean, one blip of the throttle in a corner wrong, and shes in a tree. Like I told her, you don't teach someone to drive in a race car.
I'll lead off, I rode for 1 year (only about 500 miles and 1 tree hit at 35 mph on my first ride) before getting my RTX, and looking back, I needed more time. My friend honestly asked me not to buy it because he felt I might seriously hurt myself. I've had some close calls, but all of it has made me a better rider. How about it, how long have you been riding before taking on this wild (but awesome) ride?

im 24 ive been on sleds since i can remember. Got my licence when i was 10 and started riding the trails with family. First sled i actually bought was an 01 polaris XCSP 600 in 2002. Rode that til 06 when i spring ordered my 2006 Fusion 600 HO, Rode that 2 years and then got my nytro in 08. So ive been riding for a good 14 years, with a good 7 of real trail experience before my nytro i would say. Ill tell ya what im glad i did because this sled is very torqey, and if you never rode one it will def surprise you. Ive had a couple doo guys hop on it for a second and they came right back and go HOLY HELL how do you ride that thing, thats crazy hahaha. Gotta love it!!

From experience, do yourself a favour and pick up a Phazer either 2 or 4 stroke. Learning to ride on the Nytro is a accident waiting to happen, as it wont be "if" but "when" things go bad. I had a close call once when I asked my wife to move my Warrior after fueling at a gas station (she rode a 500 Venture) she gave it some throttle as she would have on the 2up, she ended up doing a three foot asphalt wheelie accross the parking lot!.... thank goodness nobody was in the way. So make your girl friends first ride experience a good one and chances are she will be hooked for life like the rest of us snow junkies. Good luck!

If she's really determined to pilot a Nytro you might first have her pick out 2 or 3 replacement girlfriends. Just in case.
See if you can find a Phazer to rent or borrow for a weekend. It's a lot less intimidating and still a blast to ride. It would be a good introduction to the basics.

She has ridden mine around our land a few times, but its all open field. She was all psyched she jumped it, I think the track MIGHT have left the ground by an inch, but baby steps. She just wants to ride, and unfortunately the sleds we have in the stable are a modded Rx-1, my buddys clutched, and suspension modded Rev 800 (with a cudney racing head), and my Nytro RTX. I wish I still had that 2000 arctic cat 500cc, thats what I learned on and so could she. Oh well, hind sight is 20-20. I just don't want her out on the trails with mine.
Sorry for the tangent, keep those accounts coming.

I made the mistake with the wife she what to go out and ride with us so the only sled we had was a 2000SRX700 with some mods it was the slowest sled we had. She was having a good time until she hit that tree I told her some times they just jump out on the trail like that. But now she no longer rides with us. You could say it was a bad thing but at the same time u could say it was a good thing. Just me and th boyz lol

First sled was a Nytro XTX. 26 years old when I learned. GF also rade it with no problems. I was new to sledding but not new to motor sports either was the GF. All had our experiance putting things in the trees and do not plan to learn that lesson on a sled with 140 hp.

Im 17 years old and ive been on snowmobiles since i was 4years old sitting in front on my dad. Ive been actually riding snowmobiles by myself since i was 9 years old. I have many sleds and this nytro has been the best most enjoyable sled to ride!!

I've been riding since shortly after I could walk, and I got my Nytro last year when I was 26, so basically got on the thing after 20+ years of riding. Yeah, it's probably not the best sled to learn on, but remember that she still has over-use the flipper to get in trouble, and just because it does 100+ mph doesn't mean she has to go that fast.
My ex-wife never rode until she was in her 20's She drove my Vmax 600 on and off for 2 years and probably 300 miles total before we got her a sled. We got an 05 Vector, which was no slouch for power and not the lightest handling sled. She was conscious of the power available and took it easy, and it was a fantastic sled for her to learn on. I would recommend a Vector in the old chassis (05 - 07?) as a starter sled over a 4S phazer any day of the week. They're a lot more stable on the trails and more comfortable to ride IMO. Plus, as she gets to love the hobby more and more, you won't have to upgrade from the "starter" sled so soon like if you had a Phazer.

I'm 34 and had a 78 enticer when I was 5. I've been riding ever since. I can safely say the Nytro is the most exciting sled I have ever had. The first ride last year I popped off a snow bank and shot across my drive way on my #*$&@. I am used to sleds of all types ans CC's but I was not used to the 4 Stroke torque......MASSIVE. The throttle response is instant.
I think if I were you I would pick up a phazer if you were going 4 stroke or any 2 stroke. Even the big 2 strokes don't have the instant and massive throttle response and torque as the nytro. JMO

Been riding a long time, rode sled to school everyday the trails were open since I was 12.
I'd pick the gf up a nice 2 stroker, maybe even a fan cooled so its nice and light. It would be good to learn on. Plus you could get a good one for a couple grand and sell it next year if she wants to upgrade and not lose much money. Lots of choices out there if you are willing to get something besides a yamaha.

I had probably 2 miles combined on a friends ice fishing unit(a beat down mid '90's Polaris 500 something or other) and an AC F7 before purchasing my XTX at 24 years old. Never got over 70 mph on either of them, straight line field and lake riding. I never owned, or rode, a motorcycle/dirt bike, quad, or sled when I was younger. I jumped on the Nytro and rode it no problem. A few guys think it's just simply because I didn't know what a sled should act like, and wasn't used to a different style machine. The Nytro does not seem, to me, like a good put-put trail machine though. It seems like it rides and responds better when you are absolutely beating it. I wrecked it twice last season. Once at a low speed road crossing, and the other entering a gas station crawling over the snow banks(hence the road rash in my sig). I had more close calls with it under 35 mph than I did over 75 mph. So it depends on what kind of riding she wants to do too. Either way, I think if your chick is level headed and has some common sense she could ride anything.
P.S. - Unluckydiablo, I did learn to drive in a race car. I didn't drive a street vehicle until I was 16. At 14 some older cousins had me in their dirt late model turning laps in a hayfield they had beat down behind the garage. Everything from that point on is their fault.
