How much allowable slack in chaincase?

i have a 04 rx warrior i bought last season for what i think is a good deal (3500) with now 2,800 miles on it. i havent had to do anything to it but im not sure about the slop in the chaincase. if you move the secondary back and fourth it will move from about 12 o clock to almost 2. chain case lube is clean and full. am i worrying to much or is this normal? (it has reverse)
 
Turk is right. This is normal.

Now to systematically put your mind at rest, you can check the chain tension. You should loosen the chain tension adjusting bolt's lock nut and tighten the adjusting bolt with your fingers until it stops. Then back it off ~ 1/2 turn. Then re-tighten the lock nut, without allowing the adjusting bolt to move. When you get all done. I'll bet the the adjusting bolt did not change position much, and there will not be much less back-and-forth movement in the secondary.
 
thanks alot guys i have been beating my self worrying about that, my old polaris xlt didnt do that haha , another thing, last year i changed the oil and filter the sled shop i went to had no clue what i was after they tryed giving me a filter for a yamaha warrior atv and i never thought untill i went to change the oil this year that they gave me 10-40 non synthetic, well i went to the better yammy dealer and they gave me 0-30 this time for my oil change. do you think it may have hurt my motor running that 10-40?
 
For an '04 you should be using 5w-30 semi-synthetic. Sometimes you have to remind the dealer about this. This year, even my usually sharp guy, thought we all were using 0W-30 full-synthetic.

For the '05 and newer they went to the 0w-30 synthetic. In '05 they also went to a better ring style. But, I think the change was really made to make really cold starting easier. In '05 they also went to a much smaller battery.

If you put in the wrong oil, you will most likely see a change in oil consumption. The heavier oil (10-40) may have reduced oil consumption. The lighter oil (0W-30) may increase it. On my '04, lighter oil (i.e. 0w- 30) did increase my sleds oil consumption noticeably from normal oil (5w-30). But the increase was not significant enough to even begin worrying about.

10w-40 is relatively heavy oil compared to what is recommended. However, our sleds force us to allow some warm up, so you should be O.K. I would not worry about it.
