how to check ohlins ec shock on 07 attak gt

i am helping a buddy work on his 07 attak gt....looking at the ohlins ec shock...how do i tell if the shock is working properly?? on the display the bars go up and down...when i ohm the shock itself it is 4 ohms, should i hear or feel the motor moving when i adjust the shock...he wants it checked out before warrany runs out in a month

We have checked ours in the past by pushing down on the back bumper. It was a noticable pressure from low to high. May have to do it while it is running.
