How will my Nitro Compare?

So basically you guys are all saying it’s junk. Gone Blue literally says handling issues are overrate but do these 4 things and it will be fine. I so confused now don’t know what to do.

The only thing I said you really want to do is reinforce the sub frame. My sled had 6,000 miles on it when I bought it so I wanted to freshen up the shocks anyways. The rest of that was for reference. I followed the 08' suspension set up that a number of TY guys listed in the Nytro FAQ section and I am happy with how it rides and handles. To be honest, I never rode an 08' stock as a 121". So its possible that mine as a 144" tames some of what people have issues with on 08"s? G.B.

Sorry Gone Blue I’m just frustrated because I’m not a guy that has any clue on how to work on these. What you said about reinforcing the frame is all Chinese to me. I wish had done more research before I bought.

Fret not Billy Berru, you came to the right spot (i.e. right forum) for all kinds of assistance with getting your Nytro dialed in and properly setup. Tons of information from how-to's to best practices you will find on this forum. Plus, become a VIP member on this forum and you will have access to the service manual for your Nytro but I suspect you will find more assistance from our member base than any manual can provide you. However, having detailed steps on how to disassemble something might come in handy if you are not that familiar with your snowmobile. When I purchased my new 08 Nytro leftover in 2012, I too found myself in a similar spot as you but like Gone Blue has stated, they are not junk by any stretch but just had their share of issues. I think you will find that all sleds have their issues or weaknesses; even the new ones are still plagued by previous years issues. Best advice would be to get some seat time on your Nytro and then report back on what you don't like to determine how to address it.

Really 57 Views and nobody has anything to say.

Not trying to be rude here, but the reason you probably didn't get a bunch of comments is that with a little searching you could literally read through hundreds of hours of forum content about the questions you asked... Even better, the site is well organized and has almost everything you asked about here in the Nytro specific FAQ thread: https://ty4stroke.com/threads/fx-nytro-faq.58910/

It seems like the general consensus is to buy an 09 or newer because of the suspension geometry changes, but doesn't mean the sled is un-rideable. All sleds have there downfalls/shortcomings, just look at all the aftermarket fixes available for the Vipers and Sidewinders.

Personally I think the Nytro's are a very fun sled with a peppy motor. You're not going to match the corner-to-corner speed of your SRX but your back will be thankful for the new seating position! Best thing for you is to cruise through the FAQ section (don't get overwhelmed) and get some seat time. ;)!

dont beat urself up over buying the 08. im haply with mine. the grizztracks gusset kit for the subframe will be stronger than any 09 and up stock one. seems to be preference but some like the 08 geometry with modded ball joints better than the 09 and up.

aside from that is preference like with most any sled, u may want different skis or at least better carbides, depending how u ride it would be a big gain to get ur shocks revalved and just set up for u and ur style.

if u got an awsome deal on it like u said then it is worth adding a few mods and will be plenty of sled for u.

if u want more speed these sleds respond really good to just a good clutch setup, clutching and traction is where most of the gains are

mine has no problem with most srxs, not as much top end as an srx though. in 1000 feet is pretty competitive. it just dont feel it mostly because its quiet and smooth but sneaky fast. when i first got mine i myself didnt realy think mine was very quick until i started beating alot of big sleds and wasnt even intending to be competitive. just bored and playin around cause all my ridin buddys were

No worries Billy Berru. There is no perfect sled by any manufacture as I am sure you know. Good thing with this site, is you can easily figure out what the Nytro and 08' Nytro weaknesses are and what works for people to live with and or fix them. I bought my 08' with 6,000 miles on it and need to be refreshed. I torn mine down and completely went through it with lots of new parts, mods, and new powder coating. Let me know if you have any questions with yours as the only part I didn't touch or modify was the motor/clutch/exhaust. Here is mine, this pic was before I switched to Pilot 6.9 skis. G.B.

You should check out some information Scott Bergstrom has written about Nytros. Search Bergstrom Skegs and you'll find the site.
I actually read the info while researching skis today.

I clicked on the Ski Savers link. At the bottom of the Ski Saver page you'll see "Other Useful Information". That is where I found multiple links addressing the '08 Nytros unique handling characteristics. Check it out.

09 Nytro RTX, only mods, OFT relocate, tunnel block off, snow scratchers on the skis, 12000 miles snd I smile every time I get on it to ride!!
