I recently purchased a 09 nytro xtx with about 2500 k, appeared nice shape. Had a brand new 1.75 camoplast Cross Country on it and new hyfax. After I rode it 3 or 4 times, maybe 200 miles all together, with a huge grin on my face(fairly hard, its how I ride) the track flew off under heavy acceleration about 70 mph, it was ripped straight across. Luckily, I wasnt injured. I am having a hard time understanding what went wrong. On the inside of the track the rubber is worn through just barely showing the white in maybe 7 or 8 spots along either edge. Each of these spots as about the size of a quarter and are on the outside edge of the clips, but only the clips with no sides. They would be about where the idlers run. This sled has internal drivers and my guess is the sprockets are causing these spots. I am not sure what brand they are but maybe they are the out of round Wahl Bros? Maybe the track is defective? Maybe previous owner had issues and/or something is bent. He put a new track on and stuck me with his junk? Before the track met its demise, I noticed it was running slightly off straight, less than a quarter inch out, measuring against the rear sprockets. I didnt think this was a serious problem and would have corrected it fairly soon. There are no other marks, scratches or damage on this track. It still has some of the excess injection molding hanging off it. I ordered the same track and my dealer will install it, I just cant bring myself to do it. My biggest fear is is this will happen again in the next 200 miles. If the track comes in today, my mechanic says it will be ready today. I asked him to have a close look at the drivers and all bearings. I showed him the track, he says he has seen these spots before and is normal. I am not sure about that. Do internal drivers require a more accurately adjusted track? Anybody have an opinion on what may have happened or what to look for? With a new track, Dupont sliders and install, I think I am looking at $1200 or more. I can only do this once!!!

I'd be talking to camoplast if I had a new track only last 200 miles and for it to fail like that.

Should do the install yourself and save all the money to have to pay the dealer to do it. That's half your costs right there.

Out of curiousity, where you running a 4th wheel on the rear axle?

Hey yamabrute Back Country track and others for that matter are darn tough. Here is a picture of my track cut down on both sides to 14" on my Phazer MTX with 2300 miles of hard pounding and boondocking. Still going strong just a fluke but still painful to be the one it happens too good luck.

Whoa...somethimg isn't right. I wouldnt write a check until you find the source. The wear you spoke of sounds normal on the edges. If the track just failed, i would think camoplast would help you out. Pictures of your set up would be helpful for all of us.

Pictures of the track, the rear skid and the drivers may help give some clues. Was the track matched to the pitch of drivers? Are your rails cut back up front?

Sorry for delay in keeping interested parties informed. I have the new track installed. My mechanic says he sees nothing wrong with sled. He actually says it looks very clean to him. I didnt want to change this myself because my garage is full of a ripped apart Viper for one, and because I needed an expert opinion to look at it. Also it would take me all weekend to do this and he did it in less than 3 hours. There is no 4th wheel on it. Sliders were new when track was installed but were wore at least halfway through, no suprise there. My daughter rode it today with no issues, I couldnt go I was on call for work. Will try it out tomorrow. Lemme know what you think.

I think the track failed prematurely, the lugs aren't even scraped up. I'd def be contacting camoplast to tell them about it.

I had the same thing happen to me last season. A straight cut through the track just like yours. However, it happened at slow speed, so it only ripped half the track.

This was a backcountry 1.75" track with about 9000 turboed km's on it.
The track looked like new until that day.

Was reading posts on two stroke side where they were discussing new track stretch. Anyone think maybe my track was too loose due to stretching? This sled is new to me but I never noticed any noises or vibrations, and thought loose is good if there is no problems. (jumping cogs or track rubbing on something) I will be keeping a very close eye on my track for the next while.

New track. 500 k. All is well. One guy told me the track may have been new old stock, thats why it blew. Dont understand the difference between that and the 10 year old one on my Viper. Dunno. Expen$ive epi$ode.
