I've noticed that two very common complaints have been track howl/noise and hyfax wear on our sleds. I have been pondering this night and day for some time now and I have come up with a thought. Seeing that alot of wear is at the rear most portion of the rails(where the load is directed from the transfer rods)and arctic cat says that track noise is a result of the wheels sinking in between the lugs/rods of the track it might be possible that the rear wheels may not be large enough to keep the track off of the high fax as they sink inbetween the lugs and a spot of the track is slapping the hyfax causing the excess wear and noise. perhaps a slightly larger rear wheel would, a)keep fom falling so far in between the lugs and, b)lift the rail (and the load) off the track at the rear. Keep in mind that the rear wheels also have the most track wrapped around them, bear the most weight, and reverses the direction of the track from away from the drive shaft to twards the drive shaft. Does anyone know if we can locate a wheel that is 1/2 inch larger in diameter(raising the rail 1/4 inch)? This just might reduce the resonance vibrations causing the howl and reduce wear at the rear of the hyfax. I am willing to try this if some one can tell me where to get the right wheels.

same wear for me too ER, i have 2k on my hyfax and the wear seam to slow down when they got to 14mm, seems that track and wheel relationship may not be correct.

I seem to notice more track howl on deceleration, a lot less on acceleration. Tried different track tensions,no diff but looser rolls better. Just throwing in my 2 cents!

have 2,200 miles on mine now and it has slowed down most of my wear is at front of skid in the upward curve where most hyfax do wear....looking like 3000 miles shoud be doable now but will change it before next season 4sure!

I rode my moms venture this weekend. It has loud track but the motor is quieter than my 4 lungers so it's hard to compair. I dont think it's to do with wear becuase it did it in the first 10 miles as much as it does now with 1500. I dont think my warrior has track humming like this but other than that the sled is sweet and drives better than my warrior by far.

I Will have to ask my buddy with the rage if he has loud howl. It has the same suspention as the warrior and he has ridden his warrior 8,000 miles and loved it. He also loves his rage but dident say anything about loud howl.

I was told to use Ski-Doo wheels as they are slightly larger in dia. they're cheaper too.

I have yet to try this for myself.

I read somewhere that Artic Cat is installing the Ripsaw track on the '06s but they are calling it a quiet ripsaw. The track has little ramps where the idiler wheels run so that when the wheel goes between the lugs it doesn't drop and thus creates a smother less vibration (less noise) run of the idlers. Also as far as noise on a different skid I have the Ripsaw on my SRX with the proaction skid and the nosie and vibration is actully worse I think compared to the original track.

Loomy

I was ridding with an Arctic cat factory rep last weekend . his track did have rubber ramps between the lugs and there is no track noise. He said they don't make a 144 inch track like that or I would be buying one .

lug height

This may be a stupid question - is there a happy medium that we could shave the lugs down to so the track wouldn't flex so much between them? (Basically turn the 1.25" into a 1.00" or .875") More importantly, would this help the howl?

Who wants to try this out?
