HYFAX Worn in the rear

i put the wheel kit on the back and it seems to have taken care of the wear problem there....now im wearing fast thru the front by the curve....i have an extra wheel kit laying here but there is nothing on the rail to put wheels in front of the stock wheels....please tell me if im wrong cause im sick of replacing my hy-fax....and next year even with the wheel kit going with 135 wheels....

sliders

I burnt thru a new set in 5 kms today!
last set lasted 3650kms
I think the snow conditions make a huge difference as everyones sliders where heating up thru poor icy snow today.

I got my kit in the mail a few days ago. Going to install this weekend. I am going to use some loc-tite on the mounting hardware.

Also,

Since I mentioned the fact that my Hyfax is worn down considerably in the rear, I am going to hacksaw through the part that is worn on the old Hyfax and post a picture with a tape measure of how much is truly left.

This might settle everybody's concerns on the Nytro's Hyfax wear.

I ended up tinkering with mr SRX today. I decided to save the wheel project for tomorrow.

I noticed again that the HYFAX stops wearing at a certain point. They just wont go anymore and will last many miles after that. I still dont believe that something has to wear down so fast just to get to normal. I ended up taking some pictures of what the excell wheels look like compared to the stockers that are on it.

One of the pictures shows how much HYFAX has worn off with ONLY!! 501 miles on the ticker.

I am puttinf on the brand new RED HYFAX tomorrow you see in the picture. Notice how much wore off in 500 miles. The front still looks almost new on the factory HYFAX.

I will post a picture of the thickness of the old hyfax where it wore through the most tomorrow.

Schmidt Brothers makes decent kits to address this problem. On an RTX it's easy bolt-on stuff. You only have to drill 2 holes for the forward set, and the mounting bracket actually has a "guide hole" so you can't make a mistake in where to drill the pilot hole. This is a simple upgrade anybody can do. Here is how it looks on my 2010 RTX SE. The inboard and outboard have been changed and two sets added as well.

Thanks for the info.

I think am going to be happy with the excell kit. I don't like drill holes in my skid. Excell's Kit is a direct bolt on.

I dont have any trouble with front hyfax wear with the stock wheels so I'm not going to address it.

Understood... But just to clarify- Chris's kits come in different offerings; all the over-sized wheels bolt right on, they replace the originals, and the rear outboard add-ons use existing holes. The outboard front is the only one that you drill out, and that's to add the billet.
My stock skid's got a lot of unused holes, so to me, it's really no big deal adding one on each side for the forward wheels, which provide the most benefit anyway. The wheels you have pictured, yes, you should be able to swap those on without drilling anything... But you aren't addressing the curve.

I see,

I might wear in the front after I put the kit on. Somebody posted that they have wear in the front now, depending on how bad it is if I do experience that, Ill look into the additional kit for the front. Time will tell, Probably wont know untill next year.

After I installed bigger wheels the wear at the front bend would stop and stay at about 30% or more left on the slides, in the worst spot.

Before, with the stock wheels, the hyfax would stop wearing when the track clips hit the aluminum rails lol

This was on my 09 rtx se. So I would try it with the bigger wheels, it might work for you. If not, throw some of those little wheels up by the bend.

got the wheel kit on today with the new red HYFAX.

Looks pretty good I think.

That spring for the middle wheels OMG!!!

Looks good. I was going to make a suggestion about that torsion spring. You want to relieve the tension before you loosen that bolt...

I guess it wasn't mentioned but if you used a small ratchet strap (springs clinched forward) it holds them in place, it's no biggy.. and yes it look's sweet. When did you change the rear idlers to red?
By the way that's a classic picture.
A snowmobile with a wallet thrown on it!!! lmao

NOW!! For the question of the day... drum roll....

drum roll.. drum roll..

Who wants to buy some 5.125 FX Nytro Idler wheels?
