I have an rtx skid and a mono, need to pick one HELP!!

I have the mono skid in the sled, bought an rtx from a member on here near new. The mono is excellent for studders/small bumps and I love it for that. But bigger, hell even medium size bumps.. forget it. I ride fast and hard but I'm not a snowcross wannabe. I like the small bump ride, but need that and a better hard riding skid.
Now I need to pick a skid to start with, rtx pro action/mono..

My freind owns a shock service/sled shop so I can get all shock work done here for near free, he's hygears worst enemy here in ny, lol! I'm not worried about that. I simply need to decide which skid is best for me, and then the shocks will be built for that skid.

If I keep the mono it currently needs alot of work. Needs the half baked set-up, needs new shock adjuster cable, needs a good 4 wheels plus one wheel mount, and then the shock work.

The rtx skid is near new, just needs mounting and shock rebuilds/revalves. But I want the best ride over all that I can get from one of these skids.
I love the mono for studders and want to retain at least near that. Every doo I ever had rode terrible in studders, great in moguls. I want both this time!

I know a big boy spring and revalve will help the big bump ride of the mono, but will it take away from the studders/ small bump ride?

If i do a complete three stage re-valve of the proaction skid shocks, would that produce a better ride?

Any input appreciated here. I basically need to know which one with some shock work will retain the best overall ride in the end.

Early on, when that skid was first used with the Apex, there were several of us trying to get it to work as it had been marketed to us, a Rough Trail Suspension. Stock, it's a bit disapointing with ratcheting issues, and the OEM shock valving just sucks big time. They were also pretty hard on limiter straps.

The reason you have that Proactive is because I wanted one skid to do everything you are asking about, and I knew how to do that with the ProX skid - without breaking any parts - ever. At 700 miles, I had enough of the Proactive, swapped to the ProX and Cobra track at the same time, and have never looked back.

To answer your question, with 3 stage valving available to you, and that Proactive, all you would need to put something pretty decent together would be a set of extrovert drivers. If I didn't have the Poo experience I have, that's what I'd be running.

Yea that was my plan originally. Do three stage valving and extroverts with a cobra track.

So you think I'm better off going that root for overall ride, then dropping the money into the mono?

I really just need to pick the best skid for my riding because the mono needs alot of work, and the proaction is in great shape, but I want to start out with the best one of the two.

I really don't know what to suggest. Anything but total reliability from my suspension absolutely makes me nuts. My experience with Yammi skids has not been good in that regard.

Given a one or the other scenario, I'd have to go with the Proactive.

Any other scenario, and I'd do what I did again... so I may not be the best to ask?

I just came off of a 2006 Apex Er, and now have a 2007 Rtx. I would suggest you instal the rtx pro-action. I weigh about 180, with gear on. If you chose to instal the mono, I would take it apart and get it beefed up by the vendor on here that adds the gussets and powder coats them. He does a great job with them. They are week from the factory and will break, in due time.

Go with the Proactive...put a progressive stack in the skid shocks...this will soften it and allow more adjustability with the clicker. My limiter straps broke once...they rotate on the bottom bar,so when you compress the skid,the strap bolts hit the track and tore the straps. I made my own straps and punched the holes closer at the bottom so the strap could not turn when tightened. No problem in 3500 miles since then! I also replaced the skinny bushings on the front pivot arm(where it bolts to the tunnel). They break and wear way too easy...had the shaft machined down alittle where the bushings fit and made new thicker bushings from a piece of white "plastic"..( I think it was Delron)....problem fixed! Cheap easy fixes that made the skid much better.

I was thinking of getting a new Vecter LTX, but I like my skid enough that I am just going to extend it to 136". Hope this write-up helps someone....Dan

That sentence sums up my riding style exactly. Thank god someone rides like me and posted it, lol!

My minds made up. I'm a very very "playful" as you say, rider. I look at bigger bumps as a chance to launch and im very happy doing so, lol!

I want an animal, with a decent ride for the studdery bump back to the trailer when I'm all tuckered out. The mono is very very well described as boring, I was begining to feel that way more and more every ride.

Can you sugesst what upgrades I should do for springs, or did you keep yours stock?

I rode a 07 apex rtx back in jan and had quite the blast with it. But you know how as time goes on you forget the little details you'd like to remember? Well now I have my own apex with the mono and I just cant remember the little details of the rtx ride that I really want to know..

Hi Max...I'm about 220 lbs. suited-up...I use the stock springs set on medium.I also tightened the limiter strap one hole. Haven't done anything to the skid (other than stated previously).Had an 05 Vector(proactive skid)..then bought an 06 Apex(mono)...liked my pro. skid better and it was easier on hyfax.Now I wanted an Apex with pro.skid and voila...Yamaha came out with the RTX! Probably the 1st time I've had the same sled for more than 2 yrs. Enjoy...Dan
