I NEED A REAR HEAT EXCHANGER

Or post a WTB in the classified. I bought a large mountain exchanger last year for $25.00. Had a dent in one of the outlet pipes. Doesn't leak and works perfect.

I bought 2 of them from Port Yamaha a few months ago for approx $125 each. They had the best deal I could find.

Sorry, both were for an Apex shorty. I would still check with them directly for pricing. They had the best price by quite a bit compared to anyone else for my Apex.

Port wants $299. Its the best price ive found but im mad at yamaha for designing the sled with a crappy cooling system, admitting the problem, and not owning up to it and standing by their product!

I had heard of some guys getting Yamaha to pay for the heat exchanger a while back. It may have been a limited time offer or maybe they were very persistant or had a good dealer go to bat for them.

I had to buy one for my '07 Apex GT and I agree that Yamaha should be taking responsibility for this design oversight. As I am sure that you know, the rear heat exchanger is now standard equipment on the current models.

In my case I also had near 100% glycol in the system which was another well known and common Yamaha mistake that was contributing to the overheating.

I dilluted the glycol to 60/40, added Water Wetter, and added the rear heat exchanger. I have not overheated since.

Once you put it in and if you have studs you will rip it apart with out 1 1/2 inches of protection over the exchanger. The stock track is softer then others and will give enough to allow the studs to go that much.
I know as I have added protection 3 times now. Each time adding to what I started out with. The studs were hitting. Just 1.325 Woodys in their recommended pattern and studs. Stock machine except for the added Exchanger,Studs.

You'll loose some travel but won't over heat at all. I rode with guys this past winter and the trails were horrible. All ice covererd from rain freezing solid, and hard packed trails due to late in the season.
Anyway I was one of the few that didn't overheat at all. Never a light on. Lot's of folks on the trail that day overheated. I might have worn my Hyfax down but never cooked my engine. Ice scratchers are the ticket for Hyfax and overheating on those rare days. I don't know if I'll get any though. Maybe if they'll fit good. I have extra wheels down there front and back.
