ice build up?

Go with the grilling spray it has a higher flash point than the cooking spray. And it smells pretty good for the first few miles.

I reciently removed my tunnel protectors to install a different skid and I can't believe the difference it made. Alot less build up and alot easier to clean out the stuff that is there. Like said above, wait a few minutes and the heat warms up whats there and a couple taps on the side and back of the tunnel and 90% falls right out.

This is my 2012 Apex xtx. The ice build up is a joke. Yamaha please get rid of the under seat exhaust!

Wow, that is unbelievable!!

Curious what temp and what the conditions were like before that pic was taken?

This pic was taken on 1-22-13. We were on a saddlebag trip in North West Quebec. The day was very cold -30f windchill was -50ish. That morning we rode from a small town east of Val-d'Or to Chibougamau. It was a 280 mile day. The pic was taken about 200 miles into the ride. We were on trail 93 which was groomed and very hard packed. We weren't riding that fast because it was to cold. Going around 50mph. Even with the cold temps my temp light was on, I never stopped because I didn't care. As long as it's moving forward is my motto...

That sounds like you wouldn't have very much snow dust, and would suggest why your temp light was on but by the looks of your machine, it looks like there was a ton of snow dust?

Odd one for sure? :dunno:

Remove the the tunnel protectors and your icing issues will be a non issue!

I'm running studs...

I was in QC the same week and it was F-ing cold. I never had that much ice build but my temp light was on a lot. As for the warning light I drained my coolant and am sure it was nearly straight glycol and replaced with 50/50 and 1/2 a bottle of Water Wetter.

Holy cow, and I thought I had ice build-up on my Venture Lite!! :o|

Went riding with friends the week after in the same area. Don't have pictures of my nytro (it was full) but here is SOME of the ice from buddies 2010 renegade. Its not only Yamaha's with this issue.

just got back from my weekend trip and I had the worst icebuild up I have ever had... riding in 0f with about 2ft of superfine powder. the entire tunnel was packed with ice, the only space left was were my undertunnel exhaust was to get it all out I had to drop the rear 2 bolts out of my skid and lift my tunnel to get the rest of the ice out of there, compared to the other sleds that were there it was friggin embarassing. since we were at the cabin couldnt weigh the ice but there were 4 chunks of ice that were heavier than 12packs of beer, so how much does 2 cases of beer weigh? thats just the big pieces i took out, not all of it...

I third remove the tunnel protectors.
Also let the sled idle when you stop instead of shutting it right down. If you are stopped waiting on someone let it idle. When you get to a stop for lunch or dinner idle the sled while you are waiting to walk in as long as you can. When I get back to camp at the end of the day I let the sled idle 15-20 minutes before I pull it in the garage and try to get as much off just before pulling in.

You can also get a spray a Lowes for mower decks that prevents grass clipping build up that works pretty good.

I have to say removing the tunnel protectors made the greatest improvement... who needs studs?
