Ice Scratchers - 129"

Looking for other options on ice scratchers ... specifically for a 129"

I've had the cable type in the past. They work OK and I'll go back to this as a last resort. I've more recently had the wire/spring type. And I really liked these because they are relatively cheap, and they work awesome. However, I've run into an issue with them. I've found that where I have them mounted, the upper track idler wheel will come into contact with the scratcher at full suspension compression. It has actually started to wear away some of the rubber rim on the idler wheel.

So, I either need to find a different way to mount them, or come up with a different scratcher altogether. I'd like to see what others have done - pics would be great. Has anyone tried the Doo tunnel mounted versions? Not really interested in the ski or a-arm mounted versions. Thanks.

Are you noticing high temps, or trying to cut down on slider wear? I bought duraflex scratchers for our LTX, but never installed them. We left the temp gauge up on the warmest days, and that engine maintains good operating temps when moving.

That does nothing for slider wear of course, so there is still purpose, just with much less need like the other Yamahas.

Not for slider wear - The procross chassis is great for sliders. I need it for temperature on those warm days, or when the trail is so hard that the track won't through up any cooling. Turbos build heat quickly when cooling is limited. Ran last year on a day when the temp was 50 deg F and the trails were like mashed potatoes. Engine was running about 180 deg ... that's not overly hot or something to really worry about. But with a drop of my old scratchers, the temp dropped to 160 within a mile a two. On another occasion with limited snow, the engine did run hot (didn't have scratchers on that trip). Those that had them ran fine.

I put a rad fan switch on mine works great no need for scratchers
I have ran in +4 * celcius no heating issues! I have litterally ran ove 5 km of road with turbo and fan switch on no issues

Fan is in there already for the rad. I assume that what Marc did was put a switch so he could manually override the temp controlled switch and turn the fan on whenever he wanted to.

What about the sliders though? The fan should keep the engine at less than 92 +/- on its own (I assume you are looking to have it run cooler for performance reasons). I run the rail mounted scratchers mostly for the hyfax as I find even last weekend running the lake, my engine was cool (72ish) but the skid seemed pretty dry.

The fan switch was manly to run the road to get to our local trail! With turbo heat builds up fast when running slow on roads.
Imo scratchers aren't necessary on a 129 track (stock track) last set of sliders lasted 3000km and i changed them but they were still good

Good point. Mine is a 137 with the 1.6 Cobra so it doesn't get nearly the snow on the slides that my wife's Doo with the 1.25 gets.
