I want to have a friend of mine make me custom wheels in his machine shop. 1) Has anybody out there done this? 2) Can we make them with no rubber on the outside? 3) What is the exact dimension of the large and small wheels? 4) What aluminum should I use? Thanks for the help.

I've seen billet aluminum wheels with and without the rubber. I hear that those without rubber tend to get a lot of dings in them from those running studs.

The smaller idler wheels are 5 1/8" in diameter and the larger rears are 7", but if you're going custom, I'd say increase the size a bit more to help reduce slider wear.

Also to consider is the size of bearing and their placement on the stock mounts, in particular between the rails, the inner wheels must be centered between the track lugs. You can read several threads on "slider wear" and "oversized idlers", etc. and you will better understand why.

I had one of my 130mm (5 1/8") wheels loose half the rubber so I went to order another.

NOT at $80.00 a pop, I went with 2005 RX-1 plastic wheels at half the price. Also they have a new wheel this year for $23.00 that will replace all rail wheels but yo need to knock off the sharp edges of your blocks or the wheel will rub.

Just found all this out today but I agree billet wheels are cool but if you get a ding in one (or more) it's going to happen I would bet it will raise havock with your track. Rubber or plastic will wear best and save your track.
