ok guys...my apex with 5500miles on it..is doing this...idles way to low sometimes...stalls..now i have to trattle it..to keep it going...and it sounds like a sometimes running on 3 cyl...question when does the spark plugs have to be changed...and does anyone else have/had this issue

Mine was just doing that...first time starting it since last riding season. Ended up being the plugs as once I swapped to new plugs she is running like a top again. I even had the old plugs out and cleaned them before I started it..still no good as it was running really rough. so went and picked up some new plugs. That an make sure sure you have fresh gas.

it also doesn't idle high when just started no high revs on cold start...sounds like it's missing

Exactly what mine was doing as well.....was burbling when I first started it, knew something was not right as it did not sound mean like it usually did and did not have the high idle when I first started it. And even after it warmed up (still wasnt running right) it would burble after I gave it some throttle when it was on the stand. So out came the plugs, which had about 3 riding seasons on them. I had everything apart anyhow, so was not a huge deal popping the coils and old plugs back out and putting new ones in.

ok..an update.............havent tried seafoam,,or new plugs,,,,but it only loops and missess on idle...no hp lose..or no lag in the power..just wont idle right..stalls on idle if i give it gas will not catch it self then stalls unless i feather the trottle..
this started when my donut gaskets where leakin...i just thought that was the problem..i have been ridin,,,for about 600miles...still there...
need some help...i will try changing plugs....but does anyone else have/had similar problems..

I've hurd a few guys have this iussue... and they removed the air/fuel.vacuum adjustemnt block(sorry i cannot remeber the name) top of the throttle bodies, were the idle screw in threaded into. they take this peice off and spray/clean with carb cleaner and re-install. and prop seems to go away. seems alittle bit of dirt gets in and messes up idle, but goes away under throttle.... hope this helps, i'm sure somebody else will chim in..

Any more info on this, mine idles low when it warms up all the way.

well an update:
last night i was finally investaging my iding issue..as i said before no prformance issues...only sounds like its misses,,,loops on idle..and it idles way to low...1000rpm...also when cold it doesnt do its high idle....soo heres what i found....had sled on hook for track..if i give it shots of fuel...and the trottle goes a CERTAIN WAY it idles perfect...if i fk with it then it idles really low......
i thought maybe the tors..was actin up..but no codes............my guesstment..... which i will find out tonight .....is if the free play in trottle cable is right....
if im way of base..does anyone else have.had this issue aswell..as others in this post are also haven...
love this site...another reason i keep my apex...lol...other than spankin the other brands...pulling another sleds = new belt...i have lots of spares....

well i did get the free play down to 2 mill.....now it still does go to low idle....when i fk with throttle...and sometimes goes back to normal...........question does the tors...act that way without giving codes...??

Mine has done that for 2 years. I have tried everything I know with no improvment. Cleaned everything, adjusted everything, switched parts with another sled.... begining to think it is timing related.

hey guys:
my service manager..quickly says it's my throttle safety switch.....it makes sense to me as it runs perfect...then i give her shoots idles low..hit it the right way it idles perfect!...no power lose either way..what do u guys think..as it does it cold and hot...and also it wont idle high..and cold start up

Quick way to check that is to bypass it. Make sure to plug the engine side connectors into each other.

well another update:
I'm not to sure it's the trottle safety anymore.. as it kinda loops..misses..idles eratically...on idle..AND can here it when on the fuel say...slow trials......???? now i put seafoam (can) through it,,,no differenace...have the trolltle free play @ 2mil....adjusted idle srcrew...which btw didnt do anything to fix either, heres what it does:
1. cold start idles low instead of idle (high then as it warms up idle goes down) which was the norm for 3 yrs.
2. engine loops.misses idles errcatly what ever the correct term should be used
3. i have to fe ather the trottle to keep it from stalling exspecally when its cold

Has anyone with this problem adjust their valves???
I'm curious is one or a few of the valves are out of spec. I know we can go for thousands of miles without even thinking about it, but starting to think its more of that. On street bikes, adjustting valves makes a huge difference in power, and these little "querks" seem to go away... just a thought? Maybe somebody that has torn into these motors can comment? its the only thing i have not sone yet?!!!
