Ignored in a dealership!

i'm in the retail business and we just fired a employee for this... the first thing we tell our salespeople is to give the customer the level of attention they would expect and to make sure they look after everyone that walks onto the property and don't judge a book by its cover... I would call the owner and tell him the situation and i guarantee you he will make it worth your while we would.

Sorry for the treatment you received but you don't fit the demo right or wrong. On the other hand I walk in a dealership with blue hair & before the door shuts behind me the sales people are all over me. Something down the middle is more correct for both of us as sometimes I just want to take a quick look & mull things over & don't need sale people up my #*$&@ every minute. A view from the other side when you get older.lol

good point... but for us its just ask the question are you taken care of...
and make the initial contact to say we know your here and when your ready we will help, this works for us mind you we don't use a pressure approach

I had the same thing happen in the fall when I went to buy a truck, I am 20. "the waiting room is over there if you where looking to take a seat somewhere while your parents are with the salesman after you look at the vehicles" "But I am the one looking to buy this particular truck" "huh really?" . I ended up buying from a different dealer that was much more helpful.

It happens everywhere, but it should not.

Do you know how many teen age kids come in and say there going to buy something? Be proactive and speak up or ask for manager. By no means should you be treated that way but think how many are in there jerking there chains too...

That is very true,

It is the age and an ignorant salesman. Back when I was a senior in high school my buddy wanted a Trans Am. He was 18 and had a good paying job. Walked into a dealership and was totally blown off by one salesman. Went to another salesman who was great and my buddy drove his T/A home that evening. You would think by now salesman would have it figured out in any business.

There are two Yami dealers in this town. Dealer A will sell sleds for peanuts but are really high pressure and will follow you around the showroom. I literally thought I was going to have to wrestle the owner to leave the place last time I was there.
Dealer B on the other side of town will still give me deals on sleds but not quite as cheap as the other place. They are very low key though you can go through the show room and look at sleds and bikes all you want with out being harassed. So do I pay a bit more and go to dealer B? You betcha!! Thats how bad I hate high pressure salesman. So I agree with Subaru 2006 high pressure is just as bad if not worse than being ignored.

I agree. We bought a new truck this year. Wanted a Ford or Chevy. Checked out the Chevy. Salesman was cool and promised a good deal without throwing a single number at us when we left to try out the Ford. Went to Ford. Salesman was a pushy puttz. There is a Silverado in my driveway.

Back in 2002 when I bought my V-Star 1100 Classic my local Yamaha dealer would not give me the time of day when I was in there looking at bike so I drove to another dealer an hour away and bought my bike. I even had to wait for them to prep bike off the showroom floor because they just sold the one that was prepped just before I walked in the door. And I was 38 years old at the time so age doesn't mean anything.

The way I look at it, if you have the money in hand and 4 dealerships within a 30 mile area like the paynety2 ( original post in Madison area) . There are other places to get a better deal. Go try another Yamaha dealer and be proactive spend it where you are treated well!

x3 Cant stand pushy salesmen. Introduce yourself and answer any questions but dont hover and pester me.

Its salespeople like that who give them all a bad name. I was in retail car sales for a long time and learned my first year to never judge a customer by the way they look or what they drove up in. In my first year I was at a dodge dealership and a guy pulled up in a beat up busted back window Dakota. I had a guy at my desk and the rest of the floor ran to the back leaving me with a customer and one other new guy there to up him. Needless to say the guy baught (are you ready for this) 2 that's right 2 1997 viper gts coupes cash. I've sold more cars over the years and made more money on the young buyer than I ever have on the 40 something customer. That salesperson is an idiot. Take the advise above and wright the letter.

My first experience was when i was 18 $25k cash in my pocket and was going to but a new chevy pickup for myself....well it was 8pm and the dealership i showed up to said well we close in an hour so we dont have time for you, well i drove 30 minutes to another dealer and the sales man was like hey what are you looking for? We test drove 4 different trucks before i found the one i wanted, it was 10:30pm and they had been closed for an hour and a half....need less to say i walked out with my new truck and a big smile. The next day i went back to the dealer that i had been ignored at and talked to the sales man that didnt want to help me and i showed him my new truck! he got pissed and the sales manager ended up coming over to see what the fuss was all about. Needless to say that guy no longer had a job and lost a sale.

That stuck with me all thru out my sale career and i ended up being very successful at it because it didnt matter if i spent 30 minutes selling 5 dollar headphones or 3 days on a whole home automation system that was $100k. Everyone deserves the same amount of attention regardless of age/gender/race...etc. Some of my best customers showed up to shop in sweet pants and a t shirt and bought 50k dollar home theaters.

Just my view of it but i would make sure that that dealerships management knows of the situation
