I have an 09 XTX that at the time I bought it got used to the handling of it and learned to love it. I then put on some fox float x's on it and rode that way for a bit then MTX powder skis. The sled handled great. Had good bite in corners, predictable, could steer in soft snow. No complaints. I then stepped it up a notch with some Elka Stage 5 shocks as I prefer coil overs in -40 temps and was always playing with the air in the fox's. Loved the fox's but I run Elkas on everything and feel they are much better shock. On the sled the elka's felt like going from stock shocks to the custom fox shocks. The difference was the same except going from a custom shock to an elka. The size of the bumps I could hit with control blew me away. Cornering was so flat and predictable I could drive it as hard as I wanted.

Its funny sometimes we make small changes to our machines not realizing the affect until we go backwards... So in the process of installing my skinz a arms on my new MTX i needed my Elkas. So keep in mind my MTX skis are still on my XTX. I put the stock shocks back on the xtx. Now I said and recommend the the MTX powder ski (not MT9 ski on mtx now) is one of the best skis out there. However I never used them with stock shocks and not thinking they would make a huge difference in handling. Boy what a learning experience. I see why people may not like the MTX ski on a stock machine. I could not ride the thing at all. The machine was flipping over on every turn and could not control it. Very scary. At this point I realized what a difference shocks can make and why peoples perceptions of how different skis perform is very clear.

So if anyone wants a good set up the MTX ski, with Fox float X or Elka's is a great setup. Stock shocks and MTX ski is not! I am going to put the MTX ski on the MTX and the MT9 on the XTX. THe MT9 pushes really bad on the mtx and not a fan of it. Might be a good combo on xtx though.

As far as skinz 39" wide with Elka's... So far so good. Very stable, much easier to pull sled over and confident inspiring. Much more stable then stock a arms, stock suspension on XTX.

Cant wait for more snow!

Was looking at a set of elkas for my xtx but wanting to upgrade to the skinz 42" front end later on I wondered if they needed to be modified like the other shocks.

Where did you purchase them?
