hey guys, i bought a 04 warrior recently and i love it. it is a big difference from a 93 phazer to a 04 warrior. lol but the speedo and the odometer isnt working. so i bought a new speedo sensor and i am going to put it in instead of paying 95 dollars an hour to let the local dealer do it. any tips on how to make this easy? i know it is located behind the secondary. do you have to take the secondary off, or can you get to it without removing it? And the speedo sensor should correct my problem, right? the speedo stays on zero the whole time i ride it, and the mileage doesnt go up either. any help is greatly appreciated...

Remove the secondary (14mm bolt); you'll have a lot more room to work.

The speedo sensor is fastened to the tunnel with 2 x 12mm nuts. Remove those and follow the wire up to roughly the front of your tank where the fuel sender is. Unplug the old, plug in the new.

Are you sure the sending unit is in place? It would be the splined gear that the part you're trying to replace is pointing at...

yeah everything looks good and tight. i guess yamaha changed that part for every year it has been out. there are four different part numbers for it already. the dealer said that is why it could not be working... but the spindle does look fine.

Did you check out why it isn't working? How Bout the bearing took it out! Thats what happens alot .you are there already there, so ya should change it out.

yeah i just put the speedo sensor in tonight, started it up, reved it a little to get the track spinning, and it still stays on 0. is that bearing hard to replace? what do you have to take off to get to it? thanks

what about the connection at the back of the speedo, just check to make sure its plugged in. They sometime wiggle loose.

The gage is bolted in from the backside. You will have to remove the Windshield Bessel, Windshield and some other trim. Then you can get at the screws holding in the gage.

But, we are not there yet. Have you measured the play in the drive shaft bearing (i.e. the PTO side, where the sensor and gear is.) If that bearing is bad, you will not get a signal to drive the gage. There should be little side to side or up to down movement. You may have to loosen the track to take the tension off the drive shaft for this measurement.

Also, the plug into the back of the gage can be accessed w/o removing the gage. The plug connectors do tend to come loose. You might even try come contact cleaner. But, do not let this splash around. Depending on the brand and type of cleaner, some of the plastics (e.g. windshields) do not like this stuff.

Did you check the gauge fuse? Sometimes we overlook the obvious :)

yes the rest of the gauge is working fine. the tach and lights work fine, but the speedo and the odometer do not work....
