My buddie just bought a new Attak and is trying to get insurance on it, he got a few quotes and the numbers are outrageous. Like $1200, $700, about what price should be the norm and where should he look?

Should cost no more than about $ 150.00 for the season for two ( 2 ) sleds and trailer !

Foremost Insurance Company. They will not only insure it, they will pay $1000.00 more than you paid for your Spring order 2004 Ski-Doo Renegade 800 when you drive into a tree at 345 miles.

And, they won't raise your rates!

Not proud of it but it really happened.

Two sleds and a trailer for about $400.00 a year with big coverage on liability etc.

In Michigan you can delete the collision part of policy in the summer when not in use and only keep fire and theft.

You only need the collision when you are riding it.

The refund is how I get it so cheap ! Not sure how
other states are set up !

Hey Randy, What is the name of the company? How much bodily injury liability do you carry? That price sound like minimum coverage and High deductibles.

What state are you in? Different states have different laws and requirements. A question like this should be posed at other sledders in YOUR state, otherwise the info is about useless...

Auto-Owners Insurance Company and here's how its reads :

1 million Bodily injury liability
$ 250.00 deductible

06 Apex GT Valued at $ 10,000.00 Stated Value required
06 Rage Valued at $ 7,500.00 Stated Value required
2007 Renagade Car Hauler trailer valued at $12,000

Insurance is wrote 1/07/08 to 7/07/08 Total cost $ 288.00

In March I remove broad form collision for the summer and get back
a refund around $ 168.00 I then keep fire and theft for balance of year and it adds $ 35.00 which makes the annual cost of $ 155.00 for insurance.

Call Allan June at 1-800-626-4532 and he will help you get the
best deal ! Homeowners is also with them and they beat what
I had from another company by enough to switch it !

Our driving records are perfect, our credit record is clean and my
claims are low ! This helps us get the best rate !

Most insurance companies are not taking into consideration the difference between 2 and 4 stroke snowmobiles. That is going to take some time and effort from us (the consumers) and the manufacturers. So far the ones that I found that don't price your premium by cc is American Family and State Farm but you need a supporting policy of auto or home owners. I pay $215 annually for an 07 attak gt at American Family in Minn but that's with an auto policy. I have contacted Yamaha cust service about this but got the proverbial "We haven't heard that before" from them. This would benefit them as I'm sure some buyers get scared away when they try to price insurance for them prior to purchasing some of these new 4 strokes. My advise is to keep calling Yamaha and some of these insurance underwriters and eventually they will start to differentiate between the two different engines.

Fireman 1069 you are exactly right about most insurance companys trying to price an Apex based on 1000 cc's which is not how it should be done !

We refered Auto-Owners Insurance Company to the Head man of the International Snowmoblie Race Assoication and the President of the MId-West International Race assoication ( ISRA ) and ( MIRA )
in which they both told Auto-Owners that they classified the RX-1 1000 cc's in 2003 for racing in the
600 class for the SOO-500 International Race
and all the local MIRA races. By doing this we got Auto-Owners to understand the real story on how they
rated the 1000 cc's Four Stroke same as a 600
cc's 2 stroke.

My agent Allan June got this done and it saves me
and him money as we both ride 1000 cc's yamaha's.

Bottom line is do you think the Insurance company has more liability on a four stroke than it does on a two stroke ?

No their liability is exactly the same ! One reason is stated value !

The other has to do with numbers and there is alot more 2 strokes than
four strokes on the trails today ! That is changing and will continue to change!

Insurance on sleds should be cheap as its a very short season ! Last year
was one of safest years in long time for sleds in Michigan ! Accidents are
down, way down want know why ?

Less sales, less riders, less miles, higher cost to enjoy the sport,
slower average speeds, and less winter weather!
