sorry first Apex only 73mi....heres the deal

Cold start up, waited till the yellow light goes out, then hit the gas for a track warm up, and it would miss or hesitate if I hit the gas too fast (sounded like it droped a few cyclinders) if I rolled it on it was ok.

After letting run longer the problem disapered. Was this because the motor was not fully warm???? Thought once the light was out you were good to go???

Thanks LaLaLa

The engine isn't at full operaating temperature for a while after the yellow light goes out. The yellow light only tells you when it is safe to move it. I usually will start it, wait untill the yellow light goes out, and then lightly hit the gas to move it out of the garage, or parking place. I then let it sit while I put my Ipod in, my balaclava, helmet, gloves, etccc. (I take my time) and then take off for the trail. I usuall have to ride out of town, so I try not to give it much gas anyway, but by the time I can hammer it, it's been running for a few minutes.

Long story short - - - LET IT WARM UP!!!!

Cool, I just like to jam it hard on the stand to break away any ice.....I'll let her warm up more next time

Thanks

That is correct, it does take a while to fully warm even after the light goes out. I have a temperature guage and I was surprised how low it was when the light went out. It would be a wild guess if I said 40 deg. F., but next time I will document it.

You think the 4 needs warmup, try a 3 holer Vector...with the choke. My son's getting the hang of it, but after stalling it 3 times, I told him let it sit for a while. Big difference. They need to warm up, just like any finely tuned 4 stroke.

I swear I leave mine run for 20 minutes on cold startups till I see 170 on the temp gauge. When my red light goes out the gauge doesn't even read yet and it starts at 140.

Darnello,
You definately should never just jam pn it to break away ice. You stand a good chance of burning a belt. If your sled is sitting out overnight after a ride, I always stand on it, leaning side to side to lift the skis, and then lift the back of the sled off the ground and drop it (or jump up and down once or twice on it) to flex the suspension. Any snow that may have melted and re-froze could freeze the hyfax to the track, and the shear forces could cause you to burn a belt. Always try to break the sled loose by hand and don't use the engine!!!!

If you can, lift the sled before you shut down for the night and run it a little to clear some snow. Leave it hanging all night. I've used a piece of chopped wood to stand it on. Never really had a problem when doing this.

With the outside temperature at 33 F, the red warmup light goes out at 68 F.. Leaving it idling for 5 minutes longer after the light has gone out, the temperature is now at 147 F.. That is on an 07 Attak.
