Hello everyone,
So I've followed the tech artical and a few posts to get my drive axel and jackshaft bearings replaced. But I'm stumped how to get the correct poisition of the jack shaft because the clutch side bearing sits on that tapered sleeve.
My only thought was to leave sleeve lose and tighten up the caincase end first then the clutch side. So basically on the chain case side I have my inside upper bearing pressed up against the spacer/oil seal against the snap ring on the shaft.
Is this sufficient to assume my chain will by aligned correctly? I can't find any measurements to check on the service manual.

Yes, no horizontal alignment marks to go by. That's the way I did it when I changed my bearings. There should be no play whatsoever in the jackshaft when all the bearings are properly in place.

Thanks, I have it together now it seems to line up fine. I first installed the upper gear and tightened the large but on the chain case side then held the lock but on clutch side with a flat head Jammed against the engine an turned the secondary. Had to remove but after to get chain and other gears installed

Yes, the chaincase side has to be in the right place if you think about it, so get all that aligned and tightened and then work on the clutch side. Pretty good engineering by Yamaha.
