Re: sled
Agree!! I bought myself a Yamaha 4-stroke fully aware of and knowing about all the issues you list above only, because the engines are known to be reliable. So I've done all the necessary upgrades, changed bushings, upgraded to Barkbuster front end with Floats, changed all the wheels in the skid to billet alu wheels, changed the springs in the skid, shock and probably need to change the exhaust donuts soon (I already have them). Hyfax changed after 1,000 km / 600 miles.
So what happens?? Once done with all the stuff just listed above, ride for approx 40 miles, the engine dies... and had to be towed back home! (luckily not by a Doo, Poo or Cat!!)
The chain ring on the crank that drives the cam chain is gone, according to my dealer. No teeth left
And that's on a 4-stroke engine which has only around 4,500 miles / 7,000 km on it!!!

All the valves was left open and the engine just died, while running. So now my motor needs to be changed, at a cost of around $3,000
If I knew this, I could have saved my 2 grand of upgrades and bought a sled that was a bit lighter, handled better and didn't need all these upgrades. And could even have bought a Doo knowing I need to be towed down from the mountain anyway
Am I pi$$ed off? Yes! Will I buy a Yamaha again? Absolutely!!

Birkebeiner, Man, i feel sorry for you, that's the truth, and i don't even know you. You probably have the WORLDS most dependable sled, and it broke on you. Bum deal.
Hope you get it up and running 'properly' and you can suck up your losses during the next several winters during the 30,000 miles you'll get out of it. By then, you'll have forgotten all about this.

They need reassuring that everything is going to be ok.
