Flipping the speedo mount will LESSEN the chance of destruction but I wrecked mine completely twice on the lower position. Once I again buy another speedo I will be mounting mine to the top of the headlamp cover. That is also posted in here somewhere (BTW I have NO luck using the search here).

Here is a pic of GodPhathers 08 with the gauge bracket flipped. I have the gauge mounted on the headlight cover, it doesn't look as clean. The gauge will always be somewhat vulnerable, no matter where you put it. Good luck!

I just flipped my bracket and it works good, I suppose there isn't a reason it shouldn't. But the only thing is you can't see it when you're sitting down, and you have to take off your windshield which leaves you a little vulnerable to the elements. I pick saving $420 and being a little chilly. If you want close pics I can send them. Also, I'm taking your advice and gearing it down... Where can I find a 17 tooth upper chaincase gear?

you can just flip the speedo mount and it will drop it low enough.

I do have some, but I'll have to look for them. I took them back in 2006 when I did it, but I think those pics are on my old HD. I'll have to pull it out and get them off there to upload them.

Yeah you take your windshield off. It doesn't serve much of a purpose anyway though.

Yeah then there's really no way to relocate your speedometer then. Even with the relocation bracket from skinz you still have to take off your windshield.

Your dealer will have the gear. Otherwise keep your eyes open for parted out MTXs. Frank.
