My factory Ohlins# 000696-08/48 L 165 came on the machine stock 2006 Apex Gt
I ordred the 5.5kg spring from Yamaha GYT-8GD47-00
The Ohlins# 000696-11/54 L 465
Is that the correct Ohlins# for the 5.5kg spring? if not is that spring stronger?
Could someone please help me with these:
Just wondering if I did get a stronger spring because they are the same length and same wire diameter

I weight 230lbs without gear and i was told that the 5.5kg spring will not bottom out for me

on the spring it has #'s written on it which shows the rate.

The following Ohlins part numbers are useful:
696-08 48 N/mm (4.9 kg/mm) Apex GT stock spring
696-11 54 N/mm (5.5 kg/mm) Yamaha optional spring
696-14 60 N/mm (6.1 kg/mm)
696-16 64 N/mm (6.5 kg/mm)
696-19 70 N/mm (7.1 kg/mm) RX-1 GT stock spring / Yamaha optional spring
696-21 75 N/mm (7.6 kg/mm)
All 696-springs are free length 290 mm (11.42 inches).
There should be a small difference in wire diameter between 696-08 and 696-11 (696-08 is 11 mm wire, 696-11 is 11.5 mm wire). Though, please keep in mind that the spring rate is not only decided by the wire diameter and the length but also by the coil diameter and the amount of coils.

does anyone have the fat boy spring number for the RTX? I don't think it would be the same as the GT.
heavy springs
Talked to tech rep from Ohlins about the heavy springs that are offered by Ohlins. I purchased the 5.5 (305#) spring and it still too light and bottoms way to easy for me. Yeah, I'm a big guy, but I have always been able to upgrade the springs to accomadate me. But when I asked about the biggest spring, I was told they would have to order it from Sweden, and that would take anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks, which just wouldn't get it done for me this riding season. He also steered me to spring manufactures here in the states. One of them was Suspension Spring (bluecoilspring.com) and the other is Eibach (eibach.com). After a few phone calls to Eibach they sugested using a dual rate, dual spring that has a smaller lighter spring would still allow a soft supple ride over studder bumps and the heavier main spring to handle the big hits. The whole kit runs about $147. I will let you know whether its works for me or if I need to go up or down on the spring rate. They increase at 50# increwments all the way up to 1000#. Mine will be 400# main with 150# tender spring.

Any update on the dual rate eibachs? I'm going to need a spring upgrade but it would be nice to keep the stock apex GT ride quality but get rid of bottoming. How do they keep the short soft spring from getting cocked against the shock?

Quick question here. I weigh about 175 with cloths and probaby a bit under 200 with gear. The stock Apex GT spring rides awesome for about 99 percent of the day. The 1 percent is a crashing bottom out when I hit a sinker at the bottom of a dip or a big mogul field. Now the next thing, my wife wife weighs considerably less than me and she also loves the ride but has the same bottoming out on the big sinkers.
SOooooo. If the stock spring is a 4.9 and the optional is a 5.5 will this solve my 1 percent bottoming out problem? If so, will the rest of my 99 percent of my day now suck because the spring is too stiff?
i would really like to eliminate this back jarring bottoming out but really am just in love with the bump eliminating that this 4.9 sping does.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. anyone know what the dealer charges to change out this spring?

YES IT WILL..
I weight 210 with gear and the stock shock bottomed all the time.. the 5.5 set loose almost never bottoms even jumping!

If you are not bottoming 1 % of the time your suspension is too stiff.
