I'm looking at buying a Turbo sled. Preferrable from CPR already done sled and all. What's the life expectancy of the stock engine/sled with a turbo at say 8lbs of boost? I want it to run on Pump gas. Speaking of Pump gas, can they run on just 87? Maintenace wise, what is need to be done. Any info would be great. Is CPR the best Turbo system as fas as reliability is concerned? I just want the sled to be very reliable as a regular 4-stroke. Is that possible? Thanks...

At 8 lbs of boost the motor will most likely still outlast the chassis. Most kits calls for premium pumpgas 93 octane.

You can run on 87 but you better stay out of boost if you do, only run it on 87 when you can NOT get hold of better fuel. I advice you to NOT run your sled on cheap fuel, it will most likely lead to disaster aka detonation and engine failure as a result.

Maintenance will be like a stock sled. From my experience you will have to look close at all bearings at seasons end, inspect, clean and repack with grease. Specially keep an eye on the driveshaft bearing on the left side, and the jackshaft bearing on the same side. Other than this nothing else extraordinary needs to be done maintenancewise.

From what I have read on this site, Simons CPR, MCXpress and Powderlites have been very reliable. Most breakdowns are not caused by the turbo systems, but by wrong setup. F.ex. running too little octane fuel at too high boost pressure, turbo kit install not done properly (been there done that, blew the head gaskets, my fault).

It can be raliable, many people on this site have ran their turboed sled for many seasons without problems. I have 6500 miles on mine running it at 16 lbs of boost, still running strong. Yes it is possible to have a reliable turbo sled, go buy one and have Simons CPR do the install, you can't go wrong.

About 4000 miles on my stock motor cpr turbo rx1...I alwasy run 93 or better in it!!

I have a cpr kit from 2004 , 1800 miles of mountain climbing , 0 issues . I still have the small turbo on it . ( spools fast ! ) real nice in the mountains ! I've run avgas in it since day one . ( I don't trust pump gas ) .....I run it turned all the way up btw 15 psi .Still the original header too . ;)!

I can maintain a sled and have pretty much done it myslef so far since new and if I do go this route I believe I would get one right from CPR installed or have him install it on my Apex GT. Any more info.....

6,000 miles 15-20 bottles of NOS and Lots of boost still running like a CHAMP!!! ;)! I have trail rode this sled for over 2 years!!

Skydog

MCX rearmount. low comp pistons. 16 pounds boost. regular fuel. 312 hp.
I fill up at the local Co-Op and away I go.

You can have Jeff install it, or you can have the sled sent west for a few days and we can do the install for you.

"any more info" is a pretty broad question... If you'd like to discuss what adding a turbo to your sled really means, please feel free to call us. We have customers running every kit that is available on the market today, so I think we can give you a fair overview of their respective merits. That said, quite a bit of what we'd discuss would be independant of what kit you choose.

No offense intended, but I wouldn't run a stock sled on anything but premium gas.
