I'm a rough trail rider, not much ditch or lakes or deep powder.
The XP pilots sounded like the best option for me.
Other than having to machine off 4mm from the stock collars and outside spacer, they did go on fairly quickly.
I did flip the stock rubber around to keep the ski more level.
Pilots were fitted with stock dual carbides.

Since I had the stock Yamaha ski and small carbide...
I have my XTX set up for more ski pressure.
I didn't change that set up. (and I don't think I will)

First thoughts...
Some of the 2008 nytro handling characteristics started to show up in minor ways. (I sold my 08 a few weeks ago)
A bit more darting and some more busy feelings in the bars but nothing serious to worry about.
In fact I was glad to feel more input or feedback from the skis in the bars.
A little more body english was required at times to get around some corners or I would see some ski lift.
But I assume I was pushing less and going around corners faster.
Thus was able to get on the power sooner also.

Overall the sled turns way better in all trail conditions and I didn't need to turn the bars all the way into that "too much effort zone".
Does anyone else know what I mean by having to turn the bars too much with stock skis??
Eventually the sled will turn and you know it will but you think to yourself..."I really had to turn them too far and that didn't seem right."

I did not think the steering effort changed much.
So far I'm very happy with this mod.

I can give you some input with the Pilots. I don't have a Nytro but run the Pilots on my RTX. Last year started with the Pilots with stock carbides same as you and had the same thoughts. The only difference is the I found easier steering (agian RTX vs Nytro). Went with the 6" shaper bar down the middle and 6" round bar carbide on the outside. Al I can say is that it just rails with no push and no darting. The start of the season I was running Slydogs with the shaper bar and those also rails thru the corners but in hard pack always darted. They are are great ski and I'll keep trying to expirement with the slydogs at some point, but right now even my freinds love the Pilots on my RTX. I'd love to hear back if you tried a more aggressive carbide on your Pilots how your Nytro would handle. I'm leaning towards an XTX next season. Hope this helps.

I just took my pilots Off my RTX SE. I had awful push with them. I went back to the stock skis with woodys dually's rode 170 miles Sat with them and thet were much better then the pilots .
