Not sure what mag I saw them in, but has anyone used them? It looks like they have a cover that goes over the filter, and was wondering how strong it might be...to avoid the problem with the steel ribs on the belly pan from rubbing through or cutting the filter...not that I've had that issue, just trying to prevent it.
I know it is a KN-147 and seen pics but I dont know about a cover.

What about the Roest skidplate?

Ran one on my Nytro this last year. No problems to report. K&N filters seem to have a good reputation in other applications (don't have any specific charts, but in the past when I have seen comparisons they were rated very highly), and I have run them for years in my boat engines (500EFI's) without issue. I really like the nut for removal too. I wouldn't hesitate to use them- they're likely a much better filter than the Yami ones. As for the rubbing issue- I run the Roest plate, so it isn't an issue for me. That cheesy little plastic/aluminum pan is a waste anyways- probably cause more damage than it will prevent- may want to look into the skidplate.

I agree with the Pure One comment, do you happen to have a part number fo it?
On my Vector, I am currently using a Hi-Flo filter, they seem really popular and are about half the price of the Yamaha ones.

I used K&N filters on my nytro, truck, motorcycle, etc. Loved the wrench end on them. Farm and fleet and most local dealers sells them. Its something you change only once a year on the sled so what is $5-8 more then a cheap filter that you need stupid tool to change?

Why not just put the OEM in? You can spend 1000.00-2000 in mods and accessories, but worried about saving a couple of bucks for an oil filter....

QFT. Take it for what you will but, I read somewhere that the K&N flows more oil by having larger micron holes for the oil to go through. In return, letting more contaminents through.

Not worried about saving a few bucks lol, where does it even imply that...dude, read my original question..I was asking if the filter had some type of sleeve over the filter....I couldn't find the pic in the mag I saw but have since found it...it appears that it's just a nut on the bottom of the filter...thanks for the replies guys, I'll probably just stick with the original filter from Yamaha and grind the edges down on the steel ribs, i already have a skid plate aswell for extra protection.

Dude, take a pill, I read your question.....
I think this whole oil filter issue is a pretty iscolated case. I have Not seen many that have had this issue, except for one guy (Nitriousman) that had it and it blew into one big post. If this is a real ligit concern, I believe you would see alot more blown motors. I hear more about the ball joints failing and front end issues, then motors because of filters. Meaning, I see a real issue with the ball joints on the Nytro, then this brace potentially hitting the oil filter and blowing your motor. You don't really here the MTX guys saying to much about this and they are always breaking trail....
