I have put on a K&N filter but the top is closed unlike the MPI unit. Has anyone seen more restiction with K&N filter compared to the MPI filter both being about the same size. I am running 10-11 psi at sea level.

Thanks everyone

Is your filter located under the hood or outside?

im wondering with my setup, i have a rear mount turbo, and what if i replaced the foam filter with a bigger cone style? the only thing that i think would be more of an issue is snow dust

but heres my experience with my car, a filter with an open end will have somewhat less of a restriction, will it be knoticeable, possibly but the only way to see if you can tell the difference is by trying both

Hard to say without trying it but i'm running my filter outside the hood this year and i'm sure the k&n would be a good upgrade. Under the hood the filter is kind of enclosed maybe they used the one with the top open for a reason. Let us know how it works out also will the mpi prefilter fit over the k&n? or are you using it without one.

IMO, outside air is a must for proper performance. Been there done that no comparison

I am looking at this as well for my rear mount, don't want the foam coarse filter. What model K&N should I run with a pre-filter?

you can go to K&N's website and figure out a p/n based on the diameters and size you want.

yeah, I have done that for other application but was just inquiring if anyone had already tried one that fits back there nice... Otherwise I'll measure some dim's and study the application charts.

This is what I used with my Bender stage 2 kit:

K&N Filter # RU-1770 and it takes prefilter/snowcharger cover # RU-1470PK.

I have pulled the filter on the outside of the exhaust covers on my RX-1 mountain. I just removed the fake exhaust outlet, used a 90degree silicon bend. No more hot and moist air for the engine ;)!

I tried one but found that if you took some truck radiator hose and relocated the filter out from under the seat you attained better performance and consistency than leaving it under the seat. If all you do is ride groomed trails then leaving it under the seat would probably not be too bad of an option as long as you could get cold air to the filter. It waqs almost unbelievable the performance gain that you achieved by getting the intake filter out from under the seat.

I've gone to the outside this year! Went with a Vibrant open ended filter. Obviously not good for trail or powder riding!

mbarryracing: K&N part numbers; SN-2510 and SN-2530 will both fit under the seat on a 05 RX1. Don't know about an Apex.

I run SN-2510 and Snowcharger Filter Wrap # SN-2510PK
