Hi guys, you listed the stock ra spring for the stock apex at 4.5 kg and the stock attak spring at 5.0 kg this is the wire dia. ????? If this is the dia. of the wire,do you have a spring length in free state,i thought last year you guys listed both wire dia. and free length. I have my stock attak spring, and now have the apex shortie shock and spring set up from Matts sled that we swaped out last march, and i am sending my shock out to pioneer to get revalved,so i am thinking why not use my stock attak spring to boot,as i am 240#plus in weight, and bottomed out more than i cared last year,so i wanted to make sure when i install the attak spring in the clip number #2 pos. it will not coil bind.. Thanks Pete

The kg rating is for the amount of force required to compress the spring. Using the Attak spring on your shortie shock will not cause coil binding regarding of what clip position you mount it in. Be sure to set your ride height to the recommended 40-45mm of sag of after you get it back together.

Thanks guys,ya after i got thinking about the kg thing,it dawned on me it is metric and that is there compression rate,i will be setting the clip on the second pos. how do you set the sag,i thought it was just by presetting the cam on the end of the shock, where do you measure from, for the recommended 45mm?? Thanks again guys....Pete ;)!

Here's some info from another post that sums up setting for the recommended 40-45mm of sag.

Spring sag procedure and spec is same for all '05 and '06 monos and is highly recommended. It's simple to do but requires two people because someone gets to lay on the ground and measure spring length while you're sitting on it.

1. Measure the spring length with the unit hanging or tipped on it's side (suspension unloaded).
2. Measure the spring with the rider (with gear on) sitting on it in normal riding position (moving forward and back on the seat will affect sag). The spring length with rider on it should be 40~45mm shorter than the hanging length. Adjust preload to achieve this spec. If max preload will not achieve proper sag, you need a heavier spring.

Several notes / cautions:
- On Ohlins stock spring DO NOT adjust spring length shorter than 262mm hanging length. A couple mm shorter than 262 won't damage it, but don't go any further, if you go shorter and coil bind the spring repeatedly you WILL damage the spring.
- After any preload adjustment you must do both measurements again.
- The procedure and 40~45mm spec works for '05 and '06, KYB and Ohlins, 121" and 136" and optional heavier spring.
- This is an effective noticeable adjustment and actually increases ride comfort even if increased preload is necessary for heavier guy.
