My father rides a 2011 Apex XTX and has experienced the clutches/drivetrain knocking after getting off the throttle and applying it again (both light and heavy throttle application).

Has anyone else seen/heard this when riding a newer series Apex?

it is normal. what he is hearing is the slack in the chain case from the reverse. my 11 apex, 05 rx, brothers 13 venture and dads 05 sx venture all do it to a degree.

This isn't something we've heard on other Yamaha sleds (3 RX-1s, 1 RS Vector, and 1 first generation Apex), but nothing has been damaged or seems worn over the past 6,500 miles.

has the chain case chain ever been adjusted?

mine has clunked since new and when i replaced the track i found nothing worn at all. yamaha even checked it for me and said all was good but i do run more oil than reccomended level. i run it to the full mark for non reverse chain case on the dipstick.

just though of this, how is his track tension? if it is too loose it could be sliding a bit on the extrovert drivers and making that knocking sound as well.

could also be sticky clutches from belt dust.
