I want to order a set of Lake Effects for my MTX. What Pivot and Riser height should I go with? Not sure what the stock height is, but just wondering what everyone else is running.
Thanks.

Hey Pete

The stock riser on an MTX is 6 inches. Not sure if you are running a steering relocator but most are and can get away with running a shorter riser and pivot because the relocator moves the bars up and forward.

I am 6' and i am running around a 2 1/2" - 3" riser with an adapter from RSI. I also run a OFT relocator so i am about inch shorter then the stock 6 inches. I am hoping that it will work better because after adding the steering relocator 6 inches was just a little too high for me. The pivot feature is really nice to have though.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I am ordering the OFT relocator.

I emailed Lake Effect the same time I posted this...still waiting to hear.

It is nice to hear from guys who are actually using different heights so I can make my decision.

I am 5' 9" if that makes any difference.

your height makes a huge difference, im 6'2" and the mtx riser and the oft relocator was way too tall for me, it felt like i was driving a harley with ape hangers when I sat down, standing up wasnt too bad but the transition from standing to sitting just wasnt comfortable. I ended up using the stock xtx handle bars, a rox 2" pivoting riser and the oft relocater. it is a perfect setup for me. but i get bored with things being the same so Im going to try some aftermarket handlebars this year

Pete:

As the guys said, personal preference is the biggest factor when selecting a Riser, but here's what I ran on my MTX.

So I am 6'0" and stand 80% of the time. As mentioned, the stock riser is 6". To convert to Lake effect, you need to purchase the pivot adapter for the Yamaha (which is 2.5" tall), and a riser. I chose a 4" riser, so my Lake effect was 6.5 inches total. I run the OFT relocator as well.

I found this setup comfortable, and with the OFT relocator, you can work on pivoting the bars to get the angle you like. At 5'9", I'd be inclined to run a 3" riser as a first pass. I would suggest maybe getting the OFT relocator installed first and seeing how the 6" riser feels expecially when trying a counter steer. You'll get a pretty good feel for whether or not it's the right length with the sled on its side while on the garage floor.

Use all the adjustment you can, including rotating the bars, to get a feel of where you find everything comfortable. Then its just a question of mirror that setup in Lake Effect.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am in the process of changing over to RSI Riser, but I switched my whole steering system for a bunch of reasons. Bottom line is I loved my Lake Effect Riser. They are awesome trick and bulletproof. I would recommend them to anyone, and would have kept it had I been able too, especially for all the accessory mount options.

Good Luck

OTM,

I will take your advice....I will install the OFT first and then make my decision. I was wanting to order everything at the same time. The risers will have to wait.

Yeah:

You still have time before the snow flies to try it out so get the OFT installed and then you'll get a good sense as to what fits YOU.

Good Luck
