Okay, along with an updated design on this new "mystery sled", there are some obvious weight saving design changes, the deltabox frame for one, so what other obvious weight savings could they do...
How about a larger, higher horsepower 3 cylinder engine? After all, the 1050cc puts out 135hp, while Ski-Doo's larger 1200cc only puts out 130. If Yamaha gurus punched out the 1050 to...say a 1200, where would that put Yamaha's hp? Based on just the math on the 1050, that would put a 1200cc 3 holer at about 155hp, with less weight.

just got to wait
I do know Yamaha test riders have been riding Apex's with a normally aspirated engines pushing near 170hp.
Here is what I would like to see...
A new line, consisting of the rumoured 128" monoshock, and a 144" Nytro XTX suspended Apex. All with 1.5" binder traction. Lower cg's and less weight. I do know some of this is coming.

First you have got to get the facts right. Both Ski-Doo and Yamaha claim their triples to be 130 HP. They both seem to make 136-137 for real HP on C+H dyno. Yamaha is a 1050 and the Ski-Doo is a 1170. Ski-Doo uses the extra cc's to make better low end power with a wider powerband.
Right now I am a Ski-Doo fan due to its many better qualities. I could be swayed back to Yamaha if they built a machine that was as good as the Ski-Doo. It appears like they are going to wait at least a few more years to do this however.
Don't look for the new machine to be any lighter than what we already have with the Apex. It is in fact going to be heavier, yes I know this to be true for a fact. I've talked to a couple people "in the know" if you get my drift. OK, it has power steering which I think is awesome. I like that idea as I do have one bad elbow and one bad wrist. If they were to have lightened up the sled though I don't know if it would really have been necessary, time will tell.
When I ride my Turbo Ski-Doo 1200 it feels like it already has power steering being 80 pounds lighter than my Attak and lighter even than a stock XTX even with the turbo installed on my Ski-Doo.
I was going try Yamahas new ride for this next season but seeing what has been offered I will not be going that route. Too bad they still feel the need to be so conservative with their offerings. It seems I'm not the only one disappointed in the new release. But I'm OK with it because I feel I'm riding the most awesome sled I've ever owned with the turbo XR1200 Renegade. I just thought Yamaha would have brought the WICKED VERSION to the table? The real "Game Changer". Looks as though we may have to wait another few years.

You will have to wait in this current economic state. Yamaha will not do a total revamp of their whole line again. You will see specific new model(s) each year instead. A much smarter and more feasable plan and it keeps interest peaked as well.

i think yamaha should do something drastic, there were the leader in 4-strokes, but now all the other brands are coming out with 4-strokes, so it's just a matter of time before doo comes out with a 4-stroke cannon without a turbo

Good luck to doo to make that last more than 50 miles or so.... 4-strokes are way to complex for their limited brainpower.

Skidoo has been making excellent 4 stroke motors for years that are well none for top quality just as yamaha. Lets not say thing that arent realistic.
with that said, skidoo and yamaha are top runners. Just waiting for yami to surpass skidoo in the chassis dept.

I doubt Yamaha will ever pass Ski-Doo in the chassis just as I doubt Ski-Doo will ever pass Yamaha in the engine department. I have said all along my dream sled is the Doo 1200 Renegade with the Yammy 4-holer!

I agree with a lot of what you said. The only thing I don't really agree with is the 1200 over the Nytro but that's really just preference. Don't get me wrong, I think whichever sled a person goes with is going to be a great sled for them and they are so close in what they offer for a fun aggressive snowmobiler, I just happen to like the Nytro platform. I'll wait and hold judgement, but I wasn't looking for a retooled apex. If Yamaha wants to have the words "game changer" you are right, they need to not be so conservative. Sounds like this new machine is the high mileage, canada cruiser's dream. It don't do it for me though. I was really hoping for an aggressive sled with 160-170 hp.

I thought Yamaha had the edge in the engine department too, but with 1100 miles on my turbo XR so far, I have to say that they are at least on par with Yamaha with their first offering. I'm very impressed with the performance. I didn't figure it would be near the engine of Yamahas 4 or 3 cylinder. Its proving to me to have better design characteristics that I prefer. This includes quiet operation (excellent sound too), superior fuel economy and exceptional torque with a huge powerband. Another item worth noting is its much easier access to items around or near the engine. It is not so confined and tight under the hood. Honestly, I don't miss the Yamaha one bit. I held on to it not knowing if I'd like the Ski-Doo and have not ridden the Yamaha since.
As for the comment of Ski-Doo 4-tec not exceeding 50 miles. Ya, OK Mr.Rocket Scientist. Sorry, but I'd dare say it is proving to be a great success. Already it has lured a great majority of riders form Yamaha with all of them proclaiming it far superior to the machine they left behind. Some of the best riders, racers, turbo experts and people TY has ever had, even including a moderator! Yamaha had better step to the plate soon! Cause believe it or not, Ski-Doo is taking the four-stroke riders away from Yamaha.
