Unless the replacement to the Apex is 520 lbs dry or Yamaha really refines the Nytro for 2009, I'll probably wind up buying a leftover 2008/9 in 2 years and keep it for a good 5 years or so.
If I wanted to take more weight off (Nytro or Apex), where would I start? I know the seat used to be popular, but it seems to be smaller than ever. Don't want to spend big bucks on titanum arms, but other than that I'd like to know....

Maybe Next year they have a FX-1??????? A FX based RX-1/Apex. Yamaha has that name in the system apparently?????? Everyone says Yamaha is on a 3 yr. rotation......That could mean 09'? I would guess that would mean about a 30-40lb. weight loss on the 4 cylinder chassis. lots of question marks???????????????

I cind of like that Yam builds a chassis for every engine so i hope it will NOT be an FX with the 4banger... Everyone sles builds 1 chassis and put in all different engines.... NOT YAMMI!!!!

Well, I doubt they will drop that much - man do I hope I'm wrong. Mighty might have some insider info on that, or maybe he was just making an educated guess.
So what are some of the things that can be lightened?
Seat?
Exhaust?
Shocks?

They can start by putting alot of cheap plastic everywhere like Cat did with the original Firecat and now Doo has with the XP. They can also put a thin (weak) track on it like the XP and remove the extra rear wheel in the back. They can turn the tunnel into a cheese grater like the XP and figure out a way to integrate things like Cat did when they made their steering column mount to the gas tank in the Firecat. Also they can make a really light seat that sits on top of the gas tank like on the XP. All in all I figure if Yamaha gets together with toy manufacturer Fisher Price they can come out with a really light sled!

I'm asking how I could lighten it with aftermarket parts, not how Yamaha could turn the sled into a piece of junk like some of the other OEM's sleds....

Well you can start with the muffler. They don't need that big muffler on there sleds. Shoot the R-1 bike just has 2 small light mufflers. After looking at a Nytro at a yamaha show, I don't think there's much to lighten up. They need to get rid of that electric starter and heavey batery. Put something on like the sthil-e-z-start chain-saw has, pull the cord and it starts up or on a snowmobile push a button and it starts up. I think yamaha should change there cast aluminum motor to cast titanium, i know it's more money, but that is the biggest weight factor now is the motor. The chassi is perty light now, without tacking away durabilty. These are just some ideas floating around in my head.

So the muffler is one possiblity. Cool. No, I definitely do not want to sacrifice durability.
I highly doubt we'll ever see Ti engines in a sled, though it would be cool. Too expensive, though.
