2007 Attak GT, 2023 Sidewinder L-TX GT EPS
I've been reading on this site for a couple of years and have learned a ton here -- I finally decided to register and join in on the conversation. I'm riding a 2007 Attak GT LTX that I bought as a leftover two years ago -- love the sled -- had the Big Boy spring installed by the dealer right off of the bat. I run about 325 lbs. all geared up, but I really need to do something with the clutching. The sled has no problem keeping up with the rest of the boys, but I'm forever getting beat off the line -- stock clutching just grabs to low in the RPM range to compensate for the extra weight I'm carrying. I've read just about all of the posts that I can find on the subject and everything I've read tells me that the Ulmer kit is the way to go, but I can't seem to find anyone who has the Stage 3 kit installed on their Attak. All of the posts seem to be about the Stage 2 kit. Has anyone out there installed the Stage 3 kit available for the Attak? If so, how do you feel about the performance of the kit? I'll be blunt -- I want surprise my buddies this year and blow them away right off of the line. :die

I'll get the Moderator duty out of the way first LOL. Please update your profile with your location. It will help others who might live near you , and is a site requirement. NOW, to your question. Simple answer is to call Al and talk to him. I've had 2 conversations with them, and came away impressed both times. Last conversation was regarding a clutch kit for my now 144'd Attak. He didn't sell me a clutch kit. Asked what my current setup was doing and suggested a simple gear down from stock. He and his dad are 2 of the most down to earth folks I've dealt with. Scott Bergstrom is another. Call Ulmers and tell them what you're wanting to do. They won't steer you wrong.

I would start with gearing down also. Big difference.

Thanks for the input

You both say that the gear down seemed to do the trick, but let me ask you this -- how bad did the gear down effect the top end? I don't want to lose that big advantage of top end out on the lakes -- that's the one place that my sled has always had the upper hand over my friends.

Stock gearing on an Attak/LTX is fine, IMHO. I geared down to 21/38 because I am now running a 144x1.5 Cross Country track. Even with the extra length and lug and gear down, I've seen 115-117 on the Dream-O-Meter. Before doing this, 122-126. Again, call Ulmer and talk to him. He is way more knowledgeable about this than I am. And thank you for updating your profile ;)!

Call Allen Ulmer and then go on a diet !!

You will beat your buds ! , and live longer !

I'm not fat just big boned!!! LOL!

Thanks for the input, I was just curious about the changes in the top end and you told me exactly what I needed to know . I'll give Ulmer a call on Monday.

Viper_Dave.... This is abit off topic.
I second that about Scott Bergstrom. As a newbie in sledding I decided to just call one of the manufacturers about darting issues and decided to call Bergstrom Skegs and talk to one of the reps about my problem. Well who answers the phone, Scott. He was probably one of the most helpful and friendliest sales persons I've run across. We actually spend about 30 mins on the phone discussing the issue I was having and at the end of it, he sent me some parts in the mail for a grand total of $20. Thats a pretty dedicated person to the sport when you commit that much time to your customers for only a small sale. I know he will end up selling me other carbides down the road but when you run across someone so helpful, you gotta go back to that source for other parts.
