hey everyone,
I bought a 2006 Mountain Vector this past weekend and am looking into turboing it before snow flies. I also have a Apex RTX that I'm thinking about doing the same with. My questions are:
How reliable are these turbos that are being used? What's the longevity?
What can a guy look at as far as prices?
What do I need?
What brands are good?
Where do you go to have it done? I live in NW Wisconsin, 1 hour from the Twin Cities
Can I pull this turbo off the Vector (3 cylinder) and use it on a future sled? maybe a attack (4cylinder)
I don't know a ton about these, any good information for a guy getting into it?
Thanks for the information in advance guys.

dirk, no one person in particular, not sure what your getting at. Just that whoever has what on their machine thinks that theirs is the best, fastest ect.ect. I know everyone has their opinions and we all have different needs and desires, but some get on here and voice opinions without experience to back it up. I have first hand experience with all the systems for carbed machines, and a few with the efi's. I personaly am returning to a carbed Rage this year with Simons CPR turbo power. I may also try a MPI blower on the Attak this winter and see how it does. I am not afraid to admit fault like some others I have run across. I will tell you if a product performs. I will also tell you if it won't. It is nice to share info without a pissin match, thats all. Mike Knapp#17

Sorry
Hey guys,
Sorry if I'm picking at fresh scabs. Sure didn't mean to. I'm just very new to this turbo world and was looking for a little advise as I really value the OPINIONS of the members on here. I think there are a lot of things you guys that have delt with various products and problems that could steer me in the right direction and avoid a little bit of the "school of hard knocks." Any information is greatly appreciated and I hope someday I can be an asset to the people that have helped me. Wait a minute! This is starting to sound pretty soft!! All turbos suck! I'm going to NOS!! HA HA HA
Just kidding!! But thanks for the info.

JJ - For what it's worth, I'll offer some thoughts on the current turbo offerings. I won't comment on the SC products as I don't have any first hand experience with them.
reliability/longevity - Within the parameters that the manufacturer specifies, I'm not aware of any (current) significant issues with CPR, Powderlites, or MCX's kits. Boondocker's product I haven't had through my shop, so again, don't want to comment.
Price - I believe that the pricing is fairly comparable between the companies above. a little north of $4K the last time I checked.
What you need - kind of an open ended question, but as it relates to the install:
- The typical tools most sled-heads have in their garage.
- Patience, and an attention for detail.
- An understanding that you are not adding a new track, or an air filter kit to your sled. You are putting on accessories that will have your sled surpass performance levels a Ferrari owner would dream of... until it comes to braking. Respect the power, and be careful.
Brands - MC, CPR, Powderlites all make a quality product. I offer that opinion based on a fair bit of time wrenching on sleds with these kits installed.
Install - I think Mike Knapp might be close to you, but I'm not really sure if he is in the turbo install business. I'm sure that others on the site can offer a better answer to this one...
Turbo from a Vector to Attack? No. The kits are designed as a system, and are application specific. Even thought a 3cyl and 4 cyl kit may share the same 'turbo', that is only a small part of the overall package. If you want to change sleds one day, better to sell the sled/kit together or separate, and buy what you need for the new machine.
Lots of good advice on this forum, hope you take this as some of it. Have fun with whatever you choose!
