Hi folks, I'm looking to replace the factory 'nonexistent' "windshield" on my new 2017 SRViper X-TX SE. I really like the looks of the stock windshield on the 2016 SRViper S-TX 146 DX (seen here: http://www.supertraxmag.com/graphics/uploads/022515_VIPER_BIG1.jpg ) I'm a trail rider who wants to stay warm in colder (down to -20F frequently) weather. I would have bought a S-TX 146 instead of the X-TX, but I couldn't pass up the deal I got on the X-TX.

Looking at the parts lists online, I see that the part number for the 2016 SRViper S-TX 146 DX is

8LJ-K7210-00-00

I can buy one online for about $150, but I was just going to buy either a "Medium" or "Tall" one from the Yamaha accessories for under $100. Those are part #: SMA-8JP96-20-00 and SMA-8JP96-30--00 respectively.

Are the Accessory Medium/Large windshields that different, or does either of them match the stock 2016 SRViper S-TX 146 DX windshield? Do they really make different windshields for stock vs what's available as an accessory? If not, why the different part numbers?

What should I buy to replicate the stock 2016 SRViper S-TX 146 DX windshield at lowest cost?

Thanks in advance!

I have a few used windshields that are taller. Will check on part numbers and get measurements on them tomorrow.

The stx dx 146 and the Tall windshield are different. The stx dx windshield is bigger , the sides come out and down more.

Thanks Allan, that helps a lot! I didn't notice the difference in the sides.... I have been able to find some pictures that show the differences between these options that may help someone else, so I'll post here. From what I can gather, the most wind protection will come from the DX windshield that you can only get by ordering the part number, it's not available as an accessory. I believe they come pre-drilled for mirrors.
