Sounds like the chain is too tight

You sure it is the chain case? These clutches whine fairly loud. Always sounded that way with a Yamaha.

Mine does this too, anyone have any luck getting rid of it or is it normal?

I would set the chain yourself. These have a spring loaded tensioner and "finger tight" to some might mean tightening into the spring and making it too tight, especially if you are adjusting it like a regular Yamaha. If in doubt grab secondary clutch and rock back and forth while adjusting. Too loose is much better than too tight, in my opinion.

I'll have a look. I'll try loosening it off a little.

How many miles do you have since it started? Mine did this after my 1st service. It only lasted a little while. I'm assuming it stretched after they adjusted it.

Good to know. 1100 miles now, I just picked it up so I'm not sure how long it's been doing it. I'm going to try loosening it off a little.
The vipers and 7000's seem to have a distinct whine type sound when slowing down compared to other motors in this chassis, even when the chain is adjusted correctly IMO. u have noticed it on these sleds in YouTube videos in addition to riding the sleds first hand. Maybe it's just this motor but I was thinking our Vector sounded similar. I don't think it's just the clutches when the cat version does it with cat clutches.

I have 2 Vipers one LTX and one LTX SE one is very quiet the other makes all sorts of noise, both run great.
I've discussed with the dealer and they can't find anything wrong with either sled. I've got the extended warranty on both, I'm just going to ride them till I get a new noise or something breaks.
Funny thing is as they get more miles they both seem to be getting quieter clutch and chaincase side.

I loosened off the tensioner and the whine is gone. It was about 1/4 and I loosened off to about 1/2-3/4.

Don't want to skip a cog on the gear though...once you do that its soon to fail

Viper has an adjuster that is spring loaded, some dealers are tightening it past the spring load and making them too tight. You have to be extremely loose to skip a cog, but like I said rock the secondary clutch back and forth and check for play just to be sure.
