I feel the 4-stroke guys give straighter answers than the 2-smoke so here goes; I have a chance to swap my RTX for an 04 ViperS (plus cash) with a brand new M-10 with large rear axle wheels. The guy claims the larger rear wheels gives the top end back that M-10's are notorious for losing. Any truth to this? And how well do you think it would ride compared to my 121 mono?
Also; How much cash do you figure he should have to come up with? Please keep in mind my RTX has zero miles compared to his 2,400.

Mighty, why would you go back to a two stroke? That being asked, I think that the larger wheels will help compensate for the loss but not give you back all of the speed. The Viper isn't as quick as the RTX (which brings me back to the first question). I think the ride on the M-10 would be close to the mono but the Viper isn't rider forward either so you will loose a little comfort there. If none of these convince you to keep the RTX then I would guess that a '04 Viper is worth about $4,000-4,400. Through in the M-10 for about $500-700. I think the RTX is worth about $7800-8200. If you think those numbers are accurate then you have a difference of $2700-3500. Just my opinion.

I have some magic beans I'll trade you for your RTX.

That mono is a real nice ridding skid. Are you nuts!? Or just looking to get caught-up?

I have an m-10 with the 8 inch wheels in my rx and a mono in my apex and they are almost identical performng suspensions when set up. I found the m-10 a little harder to get set properly but once it was done it works well. Haven't checked top end to see how much the wheels got back for me on the top end but I also made some other HP changes too so it will be hard to determine how much I can credit to the wheels.

A viper to an rtx on the other hand.......well, if that is what you want go for it. The viper is a fine sled by all means but the rtx is so much more in the package. In my opinion (yea I know what they say about opinions)the only place where the viper has the advantage whould be in tight twisty trals and the m-10 will take away from that slightly.

I have a 136 M10 with the Ohlins package. I've ridden beside mono's at high speed in some tall moguls. In my opinon the mono was about 85% as good as the M10. I would keep what you have.

The big wheels on the m10 give back the top end. I had that setup on my warrior. Also, m10 vs mono is probably equal in ride once both are set up. The mono will transfer much better though. I would stick with the rtx.

I had an 02 Viper with the M-10. Loved that sled, till I rode the Apex. Overall, there is no comparison. The Apex is awesome. When set upo right, the M-10 would eliminate completely the stutter bumps. Don't have enough seat time on the Apex yet to have the Mono set up perfect, but I'm getting close. The riding position on the Apex is so much better and it has much more power. And I had Bender tripples on the Viper. don't really have any comment on the top end. Good Luck.

Compared to the new sleds.. the viper is one of the worst riding sleds out there...

The M-10 would help the rear.. but whats going to fix the NON a-arm front suspension..

I'm not making the trade.
What I'm looking for is a nice sled to throw in my shop for those rare snow storms we get here in lower Michigan for under $3,000. The RTX is now gone and I have plenty of cash to find a clean used sled reasonbly priced. I would also like it to be reliable enough so that if I did make a TY ride I could ride, not wrench. At 43 my fire isn't as hot as it was just a few years ago but I can't get out cold turkey. If the fire gets stoked I can always buy another 4-stroke :ORC
