Main jets

I am going to do the k&N air filter mod on my 03 rx1. I never had the jets out before and I am going to order some 165 main jets online. Are they the hex style jets or the slot type. just want to make sure that I order the right ones.

The main jet are of the slot type. Since you have never had the jet out, your going to have fun getting the float bowl screws out. I suggest that you put the carbs on the bench. As they will be seized. Likely have to hit on screwdriver & try to turn. Before you start the project, you will want to get 16 allen socket M4x.70x12. There is a thread about "float bowl screws".

I use an impact driver and an extended phillips bit on the OEM screws. Made up the extended bit by welding two bits together. There is one corner on the bowl that interferes with the driver when using a standard bit.

I also suggest taking the carbs off and doing this on the bench. Once you do it a few times, then you can get away with doing this in place. By the way, the pilot jets probably need a good cleaning too. Typically they need to be "rodded" out then rinsed clean. A wire from a wire brush works great.

I was refering to the jets. Mikuni makes large and small head.
