This winter I am finally taking the plunge and will be installing boost on my nytro 162, the excitement is unbarable. But with that being said I have a few questions that I have not been able to get solid answers for: first off, what is the max boost you can run with a 180 kit? rumour has it that you can push these kits up over 200hp with av gas and eliminating the compensator for a boost knob. I know some people have done this before, but the info on this is scarce. If anybody knows anything about this, feedback would be awesome. thanks. :yam:
 
You definately dont want the compensator. You want a manual regulator.
We run 0.6 bar at 4500 ft elevation on premium gas.
 
I got the 180 kit for 2season,with a excell header and 0,45 bar i got 204hp at McX dyno.

Works great.

Thanks for the input guys. Any idea on how to determine max Boost on these kits? Or should I assume 8psi as a max? The elevation I ride would be 5500 and up.
 
At that elevation you should be able to go a little more boost.
I run about 8.7 PSI at 4500 ft. I would think you should be able to run closer to 10 psi.

Im sure someone more technically experienced will chime in with more exact details
on boost vs altitude compensation.

One advice though, get an AFR gauge. Its the best and cheapest insurance you will ever get.
 
a easy, close figure is 1 psi per 2500 feet to compensate for altitude. 6 psi on pump at sea level is a safe figure. 9 you run out of fuel and will start getting lean anything above that, but at 9 you will want to run 100 or better and watch your AFR's. 8 would be a safer number on 100. All boost numbers are for sea level.

So to make it easy, 10 psi with 100 av at 5k feet should be plenty safe. ;)! Great power too!
 
Here's a thought. I know lots of guys running the 180 kit and lots running the 240 and 270 kits. Most of the 180 guys I know are just leaving them as they come from MCX. If you haven't even ridden or installed the kit and you are wanting to stretch it already then maybe consider a 240 kit, the install isn't much different and they are bomb proof solid. When you want to upgrade from 180 to 240 they ding you pretty good money wise. The difference from 8 to 10 lbs isn't very much but from 8 to 15 is huge. If you end up like most turbo guys you'll end up at 15 anyways. A lot of guys are scared off by doing the head shim but its not too bad really. Rather than buying 100 or running on the raged edge give yourself some breathing room and run on 91 forever with a 240 kit, it'll end up costing you less in the long run.

You hit the nail on the head Rx, I am very leary of the 240 kit only because of the head shim. Im after a simple install and reliability, both things I have heard time and time again about the 180 kit. I guess looking into install instructions on the 240 would help make my descision. well that AND price haha. But 200hp out of the low boost kit isnt horible either.
 
One could argue the other way as well. This winter I'll have one of each, but I absolutely love the throttle respose and instant boost of my stock compression engine. In all reality that thing is dumb enough at 9 pounds (sea level) to get you in way dumber spots then you ever want to go. With the addition of a fuel pump and regulator this year, I'll be running higher boost yet. This Engine at 12psi has been track dynoed at 157 horse.

The headshimed 174 is just because I can.
 
Well after pricing out the 240 kit and looking more into the process required to install, 180 it is! For almost half the price I can dial in 200hp. The sled stock gets me into enough trouble.
