Do those elephant ears just stretch over the factory hand guards?curryd said:I put on the stock medium shield off a 09 and newer Nytro. Believe it or not, it helped with acceleration and top end. My sled was always slower than my father's before I switch shields. Dead even now. What really helped was the "elephant" handguards that go over the stock guards from Yamaha. This made sled a lot warmer. I can run warmers 2 or 3 bars less than before. Definitely worth the money and sled looks good with the guards and medium shield.

Yes, ears fit over stock hand guards with velcro straps. I know using velcro doesn't sound that great, but they are very secure and don't move at all. I used to take them off on warm days but now leave them on. Some guys say when they're behind you that they look huge. Oh well they work!

Yes they do go over the stock guards. I remove mine everyday so when I put the cover on they don't fold over. I am just being picky, but the look really nice. Velcro has no problem holding the guards on and are very secure like the last post has said.
So they dont slide over and cover the back side?

I have the mid height on my XTX and for someone my height (6'3") it just seems to direct the wind straight into my helmet. When I'm wearing my modular it's not a big deal but when I wear my Klim F4 it gets annoying. Thinking of going back to the low height as I would rather have the wind hit me in the chest vs the face. Just something to consider if you're a taller guy.

They slide over the top, bottom and outside edges about 2 inches. You can see the original plastic guards a little from behind.
Thanks curryd as I will have to change the color of the guards I was trying to hide..
