so i had to purchase a new belt this past weekend. the dealer only had the new 8dn belt. well the one thing i did notice right off the bat was that it engaged much smoother than my old 8dn 00 belt. i broke the new belt in. what i dont understand is that i am turning way more rpm's than with the old belt. it wants to puts down the trail at 6000-7000. and sometimes it feels like it grabs nice then all of a sudden slips to a higher rpm. ( i am clutched. pioneer performance clutch kit.) and this is while riding nice and easy through tight trails. also all my sled did when i opened it up was bounce off the rev limiter. i dont get it. so anyway i switched back to my old belt halfway through the ride, and the rpm's went back to how they were. engaging at around 4200. holding a nice low 5000 rpm and slow cruising. barely hitting the rev limiter on full throttle. now it was icy and i was spinning alot with both belts. but the old belt seemed to run better. anybody else notice a huge difference between these belts?

the only thing i really noticed on my stock set up w/ the 01 belt is it seems to squeel more on low speeds and take offs. its doing the same thing on the vector as well.

im not getting any squeeling that i hear and there is no belt residue on the sheaves. there was a post i read on here a bit ago between the two belts and people were claiming lower rpm's. im seeing 1000+ difference higher wioth the new one to the old belt. im confused...........oh and my fuel milage went way down with the 01 belt.

The newer belt you guys are trying, (if i remember) is somewhat wider, which can change things. If your sled is sqeeling at idle its because of a wider belt sitting higher in the secondary, as if you took too much deflection out (tighter). Try adjusting your belt deflection, it could change things for the better. Also, if the newer belt is harder, and clutching is set up for the original belt, you'll see all kinds of RPM issues.

Did you try taking the washers on the back of the secondary out?
That will take some tension off your belt.
Also, try scuffing up your clutches and clean, and wash your belt with soapy water and let dry.
I just installed the new belt on my 07 RTX with stock clutching. I too noticed that my sled was over-reving both at WFO and at cruising speeds. My mileage also went way down. What do we do to fix this? Can u add more weight to the stock weights?

i know on mine, the belt isnt sitting level or above the secondary. no shims as well. rpms dont seem too high on mine.

Mine rev'd a little higher for about 300 miles with the new belt then back to normal after that.

if you belt is squealing, try changing the washers in the back of the secondary, there are 3-8mm bolt's with washers on them, i believe the stock washers are 1mm, go with .5mm or remove the washer, until the belt breaks in, and that should stop the squealing, you want the belt to stay a hair above the secondary or it's like starting in second gear

well after riding for a while last night the new 01 belt is running like it should. i cant believe it takes that long to break in. maybe i should have washed it with soapy water first?
