Anyone know if you buy a sled from a private party out of state, do you have to pay sales tax when you go to register it in Minnesota? I know you do if you purchase from a dealer, but not sure how it works if you buy it from a private individual.

Nope! only somthing that is gonna go threw the DOT like a car or motorcycle. no tax on boats, sleds, atv's if purchased from a private party!

I use to live in MN, and I believe you do have to pay sales tax when registering with them. It has been a while, but I thought I did.

I'm not sure about out of state. But I wasn't charged MN sales tax for private party in state sale/transfer.

If you buy a new sled out of state you will have to pay sales tax when you register it here.

Sleds, 4-wheelers etc do not carry a title in MN so they are not subject to sales tax during a transfer of ownership unless purchased from a business which by law are required to remit sales tax on all purchases. Private party purchases are not subject to tax.

Good old iowa nails ya for sales tax no matter where you buy it when you register the sled. Sooo I never register my sleds in Iowa. Almost never ride here anyway so it works for me. Eric

Rules that is only on new sleds. I never paid a penny for tax on my viper, it came from Mn. Maxdlx

$29.00 in iowa. title and registration. For any used sleds and quads for sure.

If its new you pay tax at the dealer. You buy a new sled out of state..its $29.00.

Now motorcycles....huuh. Our road king was used one year, cost me $800 in taxes at the dmv. :o|
