Moisture and EVAC?

Where is the water coming from? When I ride - I will have a 1"-2" solid block of ice in the bottom of my evac tube about every half day of riding.

It seems odd that much would come from inside the engine, and if it is, would I want it all in the case if I changed the evac to the setup that goes above the filters rather than below?

Also, if I am getting that much moisture, what is keeping some of it from being sucked right back through the tubes and back into the K&N's?
 
It's my understanding the '03 stock air boxes were experiencing freezing in the hose inside, thus the addition of the small slit on the later models. Moisture and oil mist are natural and have to be vented somewhere. The PCV valve on your car goes to the air filter, and thus back through the intake system.
 
Condensation forms naturally simply from the heating and cooling that occurs when an engines gets warm and then is shut off. There is no way to eliminate this from happening except not riding your sled and that is not a option.

The post about the way the other rider routed his evac would work well in my opinion by making the hose go uphill to prevent oil from getting to and reaching the filters and carbs. Gravity works! If you don't run an evac system, I have told many times that moving the crankcase vent filter to the right side of the engine compartment. Run that hose uphill to present the same phenomenon as the evac hose going uphill.
 
WAIT, I have a question......

If the stock collector box catches condensation and forms ice, isn't there a chance of eventually building up and plugging there if the sled is parked outside continuously?

My evac is new and I also clean a plug of ice every day from the drain tube. My discharge runs uphill from the engine to the filters and I notice no oil usage or other problems so far. Are we re-inventing the mousetrap here?
 
I believe the stock collector box is designed so that enough water will evaporate away before it would cause any blockage by freezing. Has anyone with the stock airbox had any freezing issues(except for hoses that weren't slit? If so, I'd be interested in hearing of them.
 
I'm going to run a while the way I am and if I start to have any doubts, I'm going to insulate all my evac lines. That should let any water get to the collection point before it freezes. I may pierce a 1/4" hole at the bottom of my drain plug to let it out too before it freezes. The small amount of unfiltered air coming in I'm sure won't threaten my engine.
