I'm trying to help my buddy set his sled up for this year... a 06 Attak.

He has the stock suspension in it, stock shocks and they have never been rebuilt or anything, with about 6000 miles on them. They're shot. He rides really aggressive, likes to jump and pound on it pretty good. So of course he is always complaining about the suspension being soft and blah blah blah. Quit complaining and fix it is what I always tell him.

So he is going to do something about it finally. My question is, what do you guys think is going to be the way to go.... the new megafloat or big boy spring with a good shock revalve?

I tried talking him into a dual shock rear suspension with both Ohlins shocks, but he didn't want to mess with it. Oh well, I tried.

Thanks for any help.

Well, the best thing he can probably do is send out the arms to get reinforced, or do it your self. At the same time send the shock to Hygear for the full deal. I'm assuming this is a std. mono without the Ohlins. Hygear did my 06' shorty and it was much improved. You could go with a std. revalve (cheaper) but it sounds like shock fade would likely occur with the riding style sothe rese would be nice plus you can get a bit of adjustment. The problem is after you dump the coin to get the shock nice, the rails and arms are either gone or going. It's a domino effect, but it sounds like you've already explained some of that to him. If they have not already cracked, I would reinforce the rails at the rear pivot. There are lots of pictures on here that show the 06'-07's. You can get longer bolts and tie the pivot to the bolt either in front or behind (I can't remeber the location) but you'll get it once you look at it. I just used some 1/4" aluminum plate that I had around. I would fully inspect the pivot arms as they are likely cracking or totally cracked at this point.

Not that you probably haven't already told him this, but he has the wrong sled for what he wants to do. Jumping a 600+ pound machine, while entertaining to the onlookers, will likely result in broken parts.

Forgot, the Mega Float would probably be the simplist, but you WILL have to do some reinforcement to the rest of the suspension. If not, I wouldn't be suprised if the thing exploded on a landing.

For the shock, top of the heap is the Ohlins shock w/ Progressive Dampening System. Send the arms to welterracer for reinforcement.

Yeah he knows he bought the wrong sled for jumping roads and gravel pits lol "hind sight is 20-20"

I talked to him a little while ago, and as of right now the plan is to take the skid out, see if anything is broken. If its broke we'll send it in to get the beef up kit.

Then send the the shock to Bruce at B-Line Control, and have him work his magic. Then get the biggest boy spring we can find.

I tried talking him into that dual shock suspension out of a RTX with Ohlins again, but he doesn't want to spend more than a few hundred bucks if possible.

Thanks for the advice. I'll look into other ways to reinforce his skid and rails

big boy spring. havent broken my susp. im 4 yrs., and i bet nobody has rode like me. at 225lbs

beef-up and powercoat from welts 200 bucks, big boy spring 100 bucks, and another 100 for the revalve and oil change at pioneer performance. talk to bruce, give him your weight and other particulars, will be very happy.

Either route would help him a lot. The Mono rear suspension is a good suspension, but it's stock shock settings are waaaaaaay too soft for any types of bumps, especially jumping. It is the cadillac of skids, but it's way too cushy for most people's liking.

For the standard Mono KYB shock (it sounds like he has this, not the Ohlins from a GT), send it off to Brian Jowett, HyGear, Carver Performance, or Pioneer. Anyone one those guys could revalve/ replace the valve stack and spring in that shock to suit your buddy's needs.

If he has Ohlins, send it to Brian Jowett for the progressive dampening system upgrade, larger spring, and revalve. It sounds like your buddy could really use Mr. Jowett's PDS system (if he by chance has the Ohlins rear). Or have him get the Big Fox Mega Float.

I honestly don't think you could go wrong with any of the above solutions, and he'd be waaaaay more satisfied with the Mono skid's bump performance.

If his skid arms show signs of cracking or breaking, send it to Welterracer/ Half Baked for repair and the beef up kit....

You are in the minority, I had the same sled as in your sig. After year one (2500 miles or so) the front arm nearly came out in three pieces. I ended up spending a day welding and strengthening it up. After that the other parts started to go one by one. Luckily my garage looks like it's sponsored by Miller (not the beer).

Add up what it's going to take to make the Mono as right as you can make it - then compare that number to what it might take to go to a suspension without all those problems... and see where that leads you.
