But I do agree they do warrant inspection and the rust may actually make it easier to spot a crack.
I think the rust has to do a lot with sloppy prepping of the part prior to painting. Since the welds are typically rough and uneven with nooks and crannys it's difficult to get full paint coverage thus leaving some exposed steel. Also if the weld isn't cleaned properly the paint will have a difficult time bonding to the metal and that to me seems to be the reason the paint flakes at the welds.
In general I agree with you - however in our experience with these monoskids, the first places that the paint flakes away (at low miles) are the first places to crack (at high miles).
How is your Nitro suspension holding up rust wise?

Great...................with ZERO miles.

Being the nasty ole truck driver that i am, rule of thumb for a driver in a pre trip situation rust means a failure period!!
As far as the rust, mine has 2000 miles on it, and still looks like new. That skid looks like it was hauled on an open trailer and left to sit with salt spray all over it. Cracks are another story, but also could be from the rediculously soft suspension calibrations these sleds came through with.
Yam will not help you with rust. The mono is worse than any skid I have ever had with rust. It is true black skids don't show rust as much - but I had a yellow skid on my 02 Polaris XC (m-10) - it looked better after 3 years than my mono did after 1 year - my XC was always on an open trailer and my mono wasn't - as I bought my enclosed trailer with my RX1.
Yam just has poor quality in that department.

Mine has just over 2000 miles and still looks new. My sled is a Attak so I don't know if that makes a difference. I alway haul in a enclosed trailer.
