I hauled my chaincase apart to change the top gear and when i pulled off the case the spring which holds the second gear on the bottom in came off along with the spring holder. Upon inspecting it was easy to see that the bolt that holds the spring under tension had broken off inside the track drive wheels shaft. I went and talked to the local dealer and they told me that every nytro mtx chaincase (reverse) had this bolt broken. This is just a warning that ppl should check theirs. Luckly the spring holder that the bolt holds in is machined to slide into the inner race of the bearing on the case so it caused zero damage. Just a heads up for all you mtx owners out there

and by the sounds of it, not 'required' to replaced..

mine was broke and bouncing around.

my buddy broke his when he attempted to remove the bolt.

aside from reinstalling the cover being a pita, it doesn't seem to make a difference in operation.
