MTX SE 162 on trails?

I'm considering the 2010 FX Nytro MTX SE 162, obviously for the powder capabilities, but how does it handle on rough trails? (Any snow yet???)
 
I prefer the long tracks over the bumpy trails. But im not doing 100mph either on them. Just have to ride the trail a little bit before i get off in the fluff
 
These new skids do great. Had an opportunity to pound one down the trail this weekend and loved it. Although i will say the stock setting are horrible out of the crate. I doubled the pressure in all the shocks almost and its about right. My final settings are 105 in the front two, 120 in the center, and 170 in the rear shock. It does extremely well for me with very minimal kick or spring through the whoops. I rode a very bumpy trail and will say this is the best suspension to date for yamaha and i am very happy with it. I am 250 or more ready to ride so these are the settings that work well for me. The skid also does a great job getting up and on top of the snow without that trenching feeling of previous nytro's.

Hyflyr how did you like the 2010 skid down the trails vs. your Timbersled skid?
 
Both have their pros and cons. I think the timbersled handles the transfer and keeps the skis down a bit better under power. The stock skid handles the stutter bumps better down the trail at 40mph and has less kickback. Again, you have to remember i have the impulse turbo on my timbersled skid so i have much more fuel on the rear of the skid so the handling characteristics are altogether different. I am very pleased with both and think you cant go wrong with either but to be honest if i was to already have the stock 2010 skid i wouldnt be wasting my money on a aftermarket skid, its that good.

Maybe not such a compromise on the trails after all!
How is the cornering without the sway bar?

Thats what I like to hear! I had a Mtn Tamer last year on my Apex and I really liked how it handled. What did you think of the track?? ;)!
 
The track is holding up so far, not bending yet but time will tell. It has been working well, hooking up pretty good on the trail and getting up on the snow really well. Would i trade it for a Camo extreme, probably not but so far so good.

As for the sway bar or lack there of, i dont think it will be missed. The wider stance has done a great job of keeping the inside ski lift to a minimum but there is still a touch of it. However, i think that the benefits of removing the sway bar far exceed the negative aspects of not having it. Being able to carve, sidehill, and overall flickability of the sled is much more fun.


On a bad note, i did bend an A-Arm and also bulkhead on it already. Hit a stump at fairly slow speeds and and didnt think i had done much damage but upon futher isnpection realized i had wrinkled a subframe. Would have thought it would take more than that to bend but oh well.
 
Andrew, how did you find the skis handled on the trail ? I was thinking about moving up to a 6" Shaper bar or Bergstrom tripple point. There's not much carbide under the stock skis from what I understand. Appreciate your thoughts ;)!
 
When you bent the bulkhead, was that on yours or the 010?? Idk if it even matters, but I thought Id ask...
 
The bulkhead bent on the 2010. Kinda upset about all that, i would have hoped that it would be stronger than what it is. I also have the updated bulkhead on the turbo sled as well and also pleased to say my rails are in so will be back riding that sled this weekend, cant wait!!!!!!!

As for the skis, i find the 4 inch carbide to do just fine. Im not a huge trail guy to be honest so the stock ones do just fine for me. I dont expect too much out of a mtn sled or its trail characteristics but was surprised with how this one does. If i have to ride more than just a couple miles down a trail i condsider that a bad day of riding, but on this sled it does a darn good job of keeping me happy. You guys wont be dissapointed!!!
 
162 SE's

I finally had the chance to get my 10 SE's out for some riding this weekend. We only had a foot of fresh snow to ride in, so it isn't really ideal to review the sleds in, but the sleds rode awesome, felt really light and torqey, and the riding position was very natural feeling.

Prior to these sleds my last 10 sleds have been 136" RX1's and Attaks and i had never ridden a Nytro, let alone a mountain type sled. I have to say I would have a hard time telling the difference between the handling of the 136" sleds and the new 162's

I got to put about 140 miles on mine this past weekend. I thought it handled great on the trails. Pushed a little in the corners, but over all impressed. I havent messed with any of the Float pressures yet either. The skid handled the bumps very well! We had about 10 to 20 inches of good top snow and the trails were really nice. I thought it climbed up on the top pretty good. Sidehilling was also not much of a challenge.
