i soaked a piston in pure seafoam for about five months now and it has not loosened the carbon at all! try it and you will see this stuff is usless. im sure someone here is gonna respond that the seafoam only works during combustion but i dont believe that at all. im still burning way too much oil after going thru half a gallon of this stuff. new rings are the only cure, i hope!

It seems really sad to me that yamaha creates a product like this. Why not just make good rings?

For large companies, saving a penny here & a nickel there adds up after a few thousand units.

4B, try the Yamaha program before you change your rings. It is two tank fulls of gas with the shock treatment using Ring-Free, oil change, then Ring-Free regular treatment which is 2 oz per tank full. I have heard of many people who had gone this route and it worked. I just had my oil changed and am waiting for some snow, so the jury is still out for me. I can say I was burning/using a quart per 300 miles and with 250 miles on this year with the shock treatment, I did not use any that I could tell. I will reserve judgement until I can rack on some more miles, which unfortunately looks like it will not be until next year. I will keep the site posted as to my findings.

I did a similar experiment using some of my old spark plugs.I soaked some in ring free and some in seafoam to determine which might be better.I was very surprised that neither product loosened the carbon on the plugs!Maybe both need to be mixed with gas to be effective?Only thing I noticed was ring free was thick and seafoam was watery!

Try it combined with heat. You need fuel & heat to activate the chemical. Just soaking by itself does nothing. All chemicals need a catylist to work properly. As a chaemical sales rep I understand how this stuff works.

Boston RX-1. What do you mean, no more miles until next year. I thought you were coming out to ride in my area the end of Feb., and the beginning of March.

I meant I would ride if there was any snow. Where's the snow. We are done here for now. If you have snow, I will be there.

HUM. Im really surprised with the amount of people who are burning oil. Does wiseco or another better company build rings for these things...
