The lower side panels have cracked along the top edge towards the rear. I'm not sure if this is happening because the underside isn't attached in any fashion to the runner board and I tear it backing up by hooking the snow or flexing off the panels is causing it. So far, Yamaha has not considered this under warranty and I know of two other sleds with the same issue. It is $225 a pop. :o|

Yeah i just zipped tied mine too last year in the mountains to get by sledskiing,,and i would'nt say its happening to just the mtx's there Daranello, but it is only mtx's i know off so far thats why i think reversing in deep snow is causing it. I've been considering trying to secure the new ones ,,let ya know what i come up with

Do you know what a drill stop is? You can drill a little hole at the end of the crack or rip to prevent it from getting worse. Zip tying it together is a good idea, but make sure you put a drill stop in to stop the crack! ;)!

This is what I did on mine. drilled a small hole at the end of the crack. then zip tied it in a couple spots. Looks fine now.

Its more common on MTXs ONLY because I think their on their sides more. :p
As in carving, rolling, getting stuck on the side, etc.

A trail sled is probably less prone to such things.

So, I'd say it wouldn't be MTX only issue...its just the way most of the MTX sleds are ridden. :p

note the duct tape (bottom right corner)...this is not the side panel itself (the part you remove whenever you need to access the clutches), its the lower plastic piece. the piece that also covers the 'underside' of the clutches n such...

this was "pre-drill and zip tie". :p

yep thats the spot,,thanks for posting the pic there r0tax,,been too busy here to get it done.
I've been thinking about drilling a hole through the new side panel and into the footrest tube frame behind and installing a plastic pushrivet. My old ones are torn aloty worse than those

Hmmm, I just replaced mine thinking I had done something too it...on mine the tabs and stuff broke off....

I have repaired it with a heat gun and some drywall(plastic) screw........simply heat the pastic and the screw and once hot, approch both side of the cacked plastic together and press on the screw with the plastic.........excuse my english, i'm limited when explaining a repair like that!!!!!

The auto body / plastics guys should have plastic "wielding" equipment that should work provided they have the compatible plastic rods. Failing that you can try an automotive bumper repair kit (epoxy with tape).

thanks for all the tips guys,,but i really was trying to see how many nitros are experiencing the same issue,,I'm not fussy being the volun-told R&D dept. for yamaha or any other manufacturer,,but seems to be the way these days :o| :o|
